I've only ever known it as cilantro. And actually didn't know it existed as a dried ingredient until I went to college.
It's an American thing. In Australia, for instance, there's fresh coriander, dried coriander, chopped coriander, ground coriander, coriander seeds, but it's all coriander.
FTR, it's just the leaves I can't stand. No problem with the seeds.
My brother's the same way, bt. He can deal with coriander, but after a bad experience with too much cilantro in a soup that made him ill, he won't touch the leaf anymore.
