And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

In my experience, New Yorkers are generally pretty nice too. (As were the people I encountered in Paris, ftr.)

Only if you respect the personal bubble and don't block the sidewalks.

(But FWIW, Toronto is a fabulous city, and I've loved it every time I've visited. The people are very friendly, but not in a creepy "smiling at strangers on the street" kind of way.)

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, we're nice, but not that friendly.

Also, I love sequins!!!!! Someone will need to remind me not to buy them.

I'm sure I've told this story, but a friend of mine from high school (Cambridge, MA) went to UVa. When we were home for fall break that first year, she said she HATED it there. Why? Because people she didn't even know kept saying hi to her on the street.

She actually got over that.

Hey Jesse! Don't buy the sequins.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Natter 63: Hey Jesse! Don't buy the sequins.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

And for a little more, you can get one that lights up.

That hat I do not love. I will maintain with my several sequined evening bags that I hardly ever use.

ION, there was a protest outside my building just now, with a bagpiper playing "Lift Every Voice and Sing"! The flyer was something about someone getting evicted, and then I was talking to a woman who works for the agency being protested. Apparently it's some housing organization that does squatters' rights or something, and they've gotten this squatter building converted into something official, but apparently the rules say the tenants can decide who lives there, and they don't want this one guy. Thus, protest!

brillig

Ha! In that sequins article there's a line

instantly transfixed with Hervé Léger's bondage dress

but the picture shows a BANDAGE dress! Much less intriguing than the sequin-spangled leather-and-cuffs thing I was expecting.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Bah. I waited too long to reserve a rental car for Thanksgiving, so the places I usually go to are all out. So I have to go to O'Hare, where the City taxes are like 20%. Plus I don't get a weekend rate, so it's $250 to rent a Focus for two days. (Usually I end up spending around $100.)

Tom, since you have to get it at the airport anyway, try carrentals.com. I've gotten crazy good deals there.
