We had rednecks in the parking lot on Wednesday racing around waving McCain flags and yelling his name and cursing Obama. Then a mom checked her kids out on Wednesday because she was worried about race issues and her kids possibly getting jumpped. There were some fights between Obama supporters/McCain supporters in a couple classes.
I'm not surprised, though. One of the towns in this county will not tolerate blacks to live there. Realtors won't even show a black family a home in Homosassa (particularly Old Homosassa). In the 60's they tried to desegregate the elementary school there and the parents burned the school to the ground. The rebuilt school is still segregated (they claim it is because of geography).
This area is about 30 minutes from Brooksville. It used to be a regional headquarters for the KKK.
I hate this place. Sometimes it is a bit scary, too.
The good thing about Obama winning means that threats to him will be investigated by the Secret Service. So I hope the assholes who suggested dragging behind a truck get a visit from beefy dudes in suits with guns.

They're killing Jim! Noooooo!
I just had a neat idea: if T and her dad aren't planning on going down for the Inauguration, I'd like to see if I could take her (& msbelle & mac if they decide to come down.) It IS a school and work day, but... It'd be awesome. I have no idea the best way to get there. Metro lots will probably be full fast, but maybe take a cab to Penn station (I expect their lot will fill up) and MARC it down there.
God. Even to see the backs of heads.
Just got home from work. Had to login to work email to double-check that I'd actually attached the report. Now I am tired and starving and hoping that my coworker doesn't go on another vacation for quite some time.
God. Even to see the backs of heads.
Yeah, I was at the Clinton inauguration in 2006, and it was pretty ridiculous, standing outside in the freezing cold in an enormous crowd, not actually seeing what was going on, but still, being there for real was cool.
In other political news, for the record, I am annoyed that Obama has Laurence Summers in his advisor group.
Oh, my word, Brenda. That's lovely.
Weekend: tonight-- clean a little, slounge a lot. Tomorrow-- grocery store, work, laundry, find a place to eat too much sushi. Sunday--Costco, more laundry, more work.
I was FREEZING in 1993. I was a little NM girl wearing a wool coat that was really not warm enough (heaviest one we found at JC Penney's in LC) and I was a human popsicle. But I remember Maya Angelou, and I remember a glimpse of Hillary on the parade route.
...and the porta-potty neighborhood on the mall. But still!
I want to be there. I may not plan to have kids, but I have nephews and tutees, and this is History for me. Like I was in the USSR a mere month before it fell, I want to mark it.
