I haven't been on b.org for ages, and don't remember if we have any Baltimore area buffistas. I'm going to be there next week, 6/5-9, for a conference. I won't have a lot of free time. I'll be in the Inner Harbor at and near the convention center and won't have a car, but I'd love to connect if possible. I've never been to Baltimore, and would appreciate suggestions for healthy food (fruits, veggies, gluten free stuff) and cool nearby things that don't take a lot of time. Is that area safe to walk around alone? I'm a little shy of big cities, but don't want to just stay at the hotel either.
Thanks for any suggestions. Contact info is in profile.
Not near B'more, but hi, libkitty!
Hi Zenkitty! It's nice to see your pixels.
Hey, guess what? The f2f is in LESS THAN FOUR WEEKS!
Steph and flea, I'll be arriving in Cincinnati late Saturday evening, 23 June. I'll have all day Sunday and most of Monday morning to explore and meet up with people. I have to be back in Louisville for a 4 pm conference start on Monday afternoon.
Any suggestions for relatively inexpensive hotels situated in a good location? I'll have a rental car to get around but I'd like to do as much walking as possible.
Sad to not be making it this year, but I just couldn't swing it with work. Hoping to make a trip to SF in October.
Pix, if you could forward me a snail mail address at my profile address, I'd love to send a contribution for the prom, etc.
Hmm, which reminds me I need to get a board check to Jesse.
Cincinnati is not a very walkable city, I'm afraid. Downtown would be the best bet; you could walk to Fountain Square, restaurants, Macy's, baseball, Taft Museum, contemp. art museum, or the Freedom Center. Plus the oldest continuously operating bar in the city (since 1861). Teppy, do you remember where Kate and DH stayed? They stayed downtown.
We have about $585 for the F2F. According to Pix this will cover the hospitality suite and some snacks and give us about $150 towards prom. If we have prom at our house chances are the $150 will cover whatever we need. If we are having it at the hotel then we will need to pay for the room for Prom and for food and drink through the hotel. Pix should be getting an exact quote on what that cost would be tomorrow, but it will be at least a few hundred more.
Maria, we stayed at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Cincinnati. It was fine and within walking distance of at least a few restaurants and museums. We got a Priceline deal on it; I don't remember how much it was, but I know we are kind of cheap, so it must have been reasonably priced.
