I think the pass is only good during certain hours, though--double-check, I remember the day pass was only good certain hours not sure about the weekly. Basically "Not during rush hour" which...doesn't leave you a lot of time, unless you're sleeping in and either coming back quick or staying til after dinner.

If a trip costs more than $3.25 during peak periods, you may use the Exitfare machine to add fare. The pass will be returned to you for continued use during valid period.

Seems to me that if you are not planning to do rush hour travel to and from Rockville, the short trip pass will work, since most of your trips will be within the city. Be aware that the metrorail system is not really designed to move people around the city in an efficient way. If you want to talk about your itinerary, I'm happy to help plan.
