Oh, smacked in the noggin with a 2x4 wrapped in velvet. Yeah, that's what it felt like.

Plan what to do, what to wear (you can never go wrong with a corset), and get ready for the next BuffistaCon.

Aren't we still waiting to hear back from some of the hotel prospects?

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Another date/place picking method we could go with is people put together a bid that includes both and then we vote on the date and place at once.

That way we could, for example, vote between NYC in September and Miami in July at the same time.

Not javachik

OMG sticking a spork in my eye would be better than either of those at those respective times of year.

That's what we call a joke.

Though I was not joking about people presenting unified time/place bids. That way we could better adjust to regional weather conditions.

The status is NOT quo.

Trudy, I think that's a fabulous idea. Obviously we need to think about it for next year, but I think it's the way to go.

So...this year? Bueller?

The thing that made me think of it is The Hotel Chelsea.

A friend of mine just had a birthday party there and her more than reasonably sized suite was, brace yourself, TWO HUNDRED BUCKS A NIGHT. Before that, I'd tended to think of "off seasons" in terms of, you know weather or beaches or resorts... but there are probably other places on the earth that have a couple of weeks here and there where they have their own lulls that we could take advantage of -- with a time/place unified bid (and a good-sized lead-time) we could literally call some place awesome and say "what is your cheapest week all year?" and vote between those.

(Naturally it also made me fantasize of Buffistas At The Chelsea some day (we missed it this year). We could run amok amidst all the art and history and our weird ly differnent rooms. And as long as no one actively overdosed we could have our prom in our suite, bring in booze, bring in food... they're not going to care.)

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Isn't overdosing at the Chelsea kind of a tradition?

You're right, we could probably go ahead and od.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

For reals, though, we need to vote this weekend. The hotel options don't seem crucially different, so if we can pick a city we can pick a place pretty easy. (Or do it both at once. Mabye Philly and Providence people could put up what they think is the best option and then we could just go with one?)
