move out and draw fire

I'd love to (Baby! Javachik!), but I doubt I'll be able to get out of the NoVA gravity well tonight.

Our wings are not tired.

Raq! Let me know if you're available Friday? My conference ends at noon and I'm just going to go touristing. Anyone else? This town is host to some favorite peeps and it would be a pity to miss 'em.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

The Weehawken Sheraton website gives a rate of $160 per night, double occupancy, Looks like we can save 15% just by booking 14 days in advance. ($136) What glories could be had with a group rate?

Enjoy a warm welcome and stunning view of the New York City skyline at the Sheraton Lincoln Harbor Hotel (Formerly the Sheraton Suites on the Hudson). Located just five minutes from midtown Manhattan, you can walk right outside our doors to board the New York Waterway Ferry and ride to NYC attractions.

Venture over to New York City and pay a visit to Radio City Music Hall, Times Square Ticket Booth, and South Street Seaport or experience world-renowned exhibits at Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Natural History.

After a full day of business or sightseeing, relax in one of our 347 comfortable suites, each featuring a cozy duvet and plush pillows on our Sheraton Sweet SleeperSM Bed. Stay connected with the people who matter most with High Speed Internet Access, offered in each room.

The views are astonishing . It is right on the Hudson River. It is across from 42nd Street.

In addition to the ferry, we're right by the light rail which would take us the two miles to the PATH train and New Jersey Transit. There are also several bus lines. Basically, we can easily access several points on the West Side of Manhattan. (And the ferry to Yankee Stadium)

It is a 10-30 minute taxi costing $30-$65 to Newark Airport depending on time of day. There are also cheaper bus and train options.

There is free Self Parking. Valet is $25 a day.

I think there are two reasons for the good pricing. The first is mentioned on the website:

Sheraton Lincoln Harbor Hotel is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation through the fall of 2010. Our re-imagined guest rooms will include two flat screen televisions, new bathrooms, Sheraton's signature bedding, and more. The renovation will also bring the Link@Sheraton experienced with Microsoft, a new Fitness Center and a fully expanded Club Lounge to our guests. Contact the Manager on Duty for questions, concerns or assistance during your stay.

Obviously, we'd (I'll) discuss just what that would mean come June with the group sales person. It doesn't sound like much heavy construction.

The second reason is it was built to serve an office complex and, obviously, business is baaaaaaaaaad right now. There are also residential buildings, however, so the area is not a ghost town at night. My Mother may be staying there next week so she can give us the lowdown.

Basically, the crap-ass economy could be a golden opportunity to have a NYC F2F.

I'm getting the pig!

Chicago peeps - I finally found out today that the only free time I'll have on my work trip to Chicago is tomorrow late afternoon / evening. They've booked everything else pretty solid. Since it's a week night people are probably just wanting to go home after work and relax, which I can totally relate to, but on the off chance that anyone is relatively close to the Blackstone Marriott and has energy to meet for dinner or drinks (or both), please shoot me an email.

Profile addy is good.

Washington DC Buffistas, I actually received significant notice about an upcoming visit to your fantabulous city. I'll be working my organization's booth at a conference from June 2-4. The conference will be at the Walter E. Washington convention center and I have no idea what hotel I'll be in yet. But I'd love to meet up with localistas for a drink or suchlike if anyone's free and/or interested. I know it's quite a ways off, and I'll probably post about it again in May. Just wanted to get it out there.

(And yes, I'm still going to Atlanta in April--Ginger, I think we were going to discuss grabbing a drink or something? Anyway, there's still a month or so before that needs firming up, too.)

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

SFistas! Imma gonna be in your fine city March 6 & 7 (actually arriving on the 5th but late). I"ll be staying with friends but will need to vacate the premises for a few hours Sat or Sun whilst they do paperwork type things. Plan are fluid, anyone interested in meeting up for drinks/dinner/minimal walking around? (I'm out of the boot but still rehabbing a two month old broken foot, so not much for oodles of walking.)

Vortex, I'd love hotel suggestions, thanks! My company has been putting people up at the Hotel Lombardy, on Pennsylvania, as that's near the company's DC office. But it's a half-hour walk or what looks like a fairly indirect metro ride to the convention center, so I'm looking for alternatives. As contractors, we usually go with goverment per diems, so small, cheapish (well, not Four Seasons, anyway) "boutique" hotels would be great, if you know of any off hand in the area. Thanks!

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Erin, I should be free for dinner or something Saturday after rehearsal. Hey, maybe we'll do a full run-through. You want to be an audience test subject?

Sunday is load-in and tech, so I don't know my availability yet.

Is your priority that you are close to the convention center, or do you want to be near stuff/public transportation?

If you just want to be near the convention center, then the Washington Renaissance Hotel is good, it's a few blocks from the convention center and there's a metro at the convention center. The Hotel Monaco is awesome (one of my favorite bars in the city) and is right near the metro, two stops from the Convention Center. It's really nice, but they do a government rate of $226.

The convention center is also a stop for the DC Circulator, which takes you all over the city.
