Maybe Providence as the primary location, with a day trip to Casino-land? The states in question are thumbnail-sized, after all, so a side trip isn't exactly far out of the way.
(I admit, I'm probably a little biased since Providence is one of my favorite places on earth and resort/beach/casino is about a half a day's worth of interest for me...)

What about a two-weekend F2F. City people can have one weekend, the other weekend can be more country, and those of us who want to use it as an excuse for a longer vacation can have both.

I can't say at this point whether I can do the F2F next year, but I am amused that you are talking about the area where I grew up. (I grew up in Norwich, which is very close to Mystic and all. In fact, my senior prom was held at Mystic Aquarium.)

Yes. This. And, as much as I love small, quaint towns, larger cities generally are easier for more people to get to and get around in affordably. Also, they will tend to have more variety in terms of activities for people to go do during the day, which is a plus given the group's wide range of interests.

Sheryl, I grew up in East Lyme! I didn't know we were neighbors.
ETA: Yep, what Anne said. And the Groton airport isn't an option--it barely has any commerical flights (it's unbelievably wee) and it's expensive to get there. The Providence and Boston (which is a quick train ride to Providence) airports are much better airport options.
