The Jersey shore isn't cheap in season, though. And when you go off season, even in early June, the weather can be iffy. September can be nice, but that's never guaranteed either. And there honestly isn't much to do aside from beach, boardwalk, restaurants, and mini golf.
And I say that loving and missing the Jersey shore like mad. If folks really wanted a beach experience, it might be smarter to go North Carolina, where the weather is usually more forgiving earlier in the year.
We could do the Philly/daytrip beach thing. that way weather doesn't impact.
Also, there's Laurel Hill Cemetery [link] , The Mutter Museum [link] and lots of other oddities that might? slightly? offset Disneyland for Jilli? Maybe?
Plus some darn fine food and Victory and Yard beers which are the yum. Also an opportunity to be one of 6 million people who has re-enacted Rocky Balboa running up the Art Museum steps.
Plus, you know, history.
I don't care how dorky it makes me; I do love Philly. Just seeing Buffistas taking over Reading Terminal Market would be worth it.
Holy crap I forgot Reading Terminal Market has chocolate dipped anything you want.
Ooooh. Downtown Philly in the summer... The time I was there, if it wasn't a holiday weekend, you could get a huge soft pretzel and a can of pop from a street vendor for less than $2. As I was there with a college history study tour, many of us would make a lunch of that, thus saving money for dinner in Chinatown, etc.

Mmmm, cheesecake.
Tom, those are just beautiful. I'm feeling absolutely serene after viewing the Japanese Gardens. Lovely.
So many really beautiful shots there.
Tom, those are fantastic pictures! Now I miss San Francisco.
