The first time I ever heard of bitters was at a bar up on Washington Island in Door County, WI. The big thing there was to drink a shot of bitters followed by a beer chaser, and then they gave you a card to celebrate your achievement that you then "signed" by putting your thumb in the shotglass and putting your thumbprint on the card with the bitters as the ink.

Hi Perkins. I'll be coming into SF this weekend. My plane gets in Saturday evening and I'll leave on Wednesday afternoon.

a shot of bitters? ew. I was given a dash of bitters in club soda for a tummyache when I was a kid.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

I can't drink any

Rum? Gin? Bitters? Booze?

AWESOME. I must find this place. (Fernet is basically bitters, which is part of the reason I love it so.)

Calli in town this weekend? Whoo!

I knew someone was.

What are your plans for Sunday?

I can't have alcohol. Not any. New medication makes drinking a really bad idea. But it's good medication, so it might be worth it.

S'okay, Toddson. These days I can only have about one drink. Two if I'm feeling well-fed and not too worried about the morning. After that, it's a reallly really bad idea, and a migraine in the morning will remind me of it. Along with puking all day. So, um, I've stopped having more than one or two. Usually one. Sigh. The medication to stop the migraines....

Ah, now I'm pining for the fun of the Old Absinthe House at the New Orleans f2f, even if they did use herbsaint instead of real absinthe...

I don't think I'd be able to throw back a sazerac and scoff that it's not even 80 proof quite so easily nowadays.

Ahh maturity- when "I'll never drink like that again," is replaced by "I just can't drink like I used to."

Hiya Perkins and Juliana! Sunday I'm booked with my Great Uncle and Aunt in Albany (near the North Berkley Station of the BART, I'm told--I have no idea where it is, aside from near a BART station) for the afternoon and dinner. It'll probably end pretty early, though, at they're both in their upper 80s. I'm getting in around 7:30 Saturday evening, flight plans willing, which I guess means getting checked in and whatnot by 9-9:30 at the Weston on Powell St.

If this sort of schedule meshes with yours I'd love to meet up with you and any other Bayistas for a drink.
