I battle evil. But I don't really win. The bad keeps coming back and getting stronger. Like that kid in the story, the boy that stuck his finger in the duck.

I'm not sure whether LA is possible for me right now, but I can certainly make the trek to Carlsbad if there are any plans for meals or whatnot before or after Legoland, Sparky.

NYCistas: I'm leaving for Long Island in the morning, but I'll be back in the city on the 30th, and I'll be around until Jan. 3rd. I'd love to get together if we can work something out!

Does brunch on Saturday work for people? I just realized that I'm flying out at 8 a.m. on Sunday, so Sunday's out.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I'm in NJ until Monday, so I can probably do brunch on Saturday.

Hil, what parts of the city are convenient for you, or is anywhere okay?

Somewhere near either Penn Station or a PATH station would probably be easiest, but I can get to wherever.

OK here are some brunch options. They are all in the Chelsea/West Village area, because that's the area of the city I'm most familiar with, but I'm not really super familiar with anywhere, so I'm open to suggestions from the locals.

1) Westville. Tons of vegan options, also non-vegan options, takes reservations, about a half mile from the Christopher Street PATH station, comes highly recommended.

2) Cowgirl. Fewer vegan options, doesn't take reservations, but extremely close to the Christopher Street PATH station (like, 500 feet), I've eaten there a bunch and like it.

3) Havana Alma de Cuba. Vegan options probably limited to beans and rice and plantains (but those are some of my favorite foods), Cuban food yum!, 700 feet from the Christopher Street station, takes reservations, but only up to parties of four, but they have a big dining room.

Preferences? How many are we? Tom and Hil are in. Anyone else? I think Vortex was a maybe. If I can get a headcount and a time, I can make a reservation, if we decide on a place that takes reservations.

Also, like I said, I'm open to other places. I'm not from here!

Ellary's Greens looks good: [link] Or Wild: [link] I've also been hearing good things about The Butcher's Daughter, which is vegetarian but not vegan, so they've got eggs and stuff but no meat. [link]

There's also Village Natural, though I can't find a website for them, but here's their menu on allmenus: [link]
