Sorry, Captain. I'm real sorry. I shoulda kept better care of her. Usually she lets me know when something's wrong. Maybe she did, I just wasn't paying attention...

Todd can be the acting senator while they have their special election.

Senator Dude. I like it.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Actually, I've been having this delightful fantasy that Sarah Palin goes back to Alaska, her husband's wackaloon party gets the state to secede and they make it a monarchy with her as queen. With oil prices down and no money from the U.S. government, things go bad quickly and they're back to subsistence hunting. (And, speaking of hunting, going by the looks she was giving McCain Tuesday night - and Cheney's hunting, um, accident - might she have succumbed to temptation and cleared her path to the presidency?)

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Hey, now. I love my home state, and I have no wish to make my mom start bowhunting. Can't we just get them to throw Palin and the Good Ol' Boys network (aka Stevens, Young, et al.) out?

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Is it really a special election? I thought the gov just appointed someone in such cases.

My students today kept asking me what will happen with Prop 8. They were really concerned about it. I had to keep reminding them I'm not a lawyer.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I think the gov appoints someone until a special election can be held. So, both. (Although my question earlier today was whether it's the same procedure in all states, or if it's more like ::handwave handwave passive voice:: Someone Is Appointed until the special election.)

Alaska changed from the gov being able to appoint someone after a gov appointed his daughter (I think).

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Maybe I'll apply for a job in the new administration? It's a pretty short form! [link]

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I think I'll apply for the position of Coordinator of Cat-related Activities. I can do that until they create the Department of Cats for me....

I think that job has quite the vetting process.
