Ohio polls close at 7:30. It is now 6:57. The Boy has not yet gone to vote, because he is still "researching the issues."

I'm trying SO HARD not to scream at him at the top of my lungs.

I would laugh and laugh if he ended up being Secretary of State to the new administration after being squeezed out of Bush's. And I'd honestly be hard pressed to think of anyone more qualified for the job.

I seriously think that the Traditional Old School Conservatives need to start a new party free from the Moron Majority Cultural Conservatives.

This occupies a lot of my political cogitation. After the debacle of the current President, the moderates, Federalists, intellectuals and financial conservatives really needed to get the party balance back from the social conservatives. I figure that was a lot of the appeal fo McCain, who wasn't in the social con camp. But since then, his campaign has gone hard into that territory, the economy is killing the GOP specifically on the financial issue, and post-election the remaining Repubs in Congress are going to be more heavily dominated by the social crowd.

Given the numbers of moderate, or simply thoughtful, Republican figures who've been declaring for Obama, I'm starting to think some sort of party split is not impossible. (Of course, if the Democrats do overplay their hand, opposing them is likely to keep the GOP unified.)

I was surprised at the lack of a line at my polling place after work. I guess everyone voted before getting off work today....

CNN has Obama leading in Indiana by less than 600 votes. Of course, that's with only 3% of precincts counted. I don't know which precincts, don't know if this represents a tilt towards the Dems. (I know the last places to close in IN trend more Democratic.)

CNN's called Vermont for Obama and Kentucky for McCain.

Indiana and Georgia are too close to call; Vermont went Obama; Kentucky went McCain.

And The Boy just left to vote. Possibly he was picking up my "I want to throttle you" vibes.

Per 538, he's doing better than Kerry did in counties that have reported.
