Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

It's just potatoes and green beans and large chunks of ham cooked together. Just cover it with water, and throw in some seasoning and it's so hearty, and simple and homey

My grandmother totally used to make that -- except with sausage, maybe?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I'm sure it works with sausage, or any other heavily salted/seasoned meat. Well, maybe not lox, but the principle applies.

Compassionately intolerant

Oh my. I'm literally drooling over those desserts. How wonderful.

AND, now I'm going to have to go hit the market for some turkey ham. Curse you people and your effect on my suggestibility.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

I had a ham bone in my freezer. Split pea soup has since been accomplished. Nom nom nom...

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

bon, how was the music? What was the first dance?

The music was ok. The good: the first dance was Chet Baker's version of "My Funny Valentine." We came out to Nina Simone's "Feelin' Good." And, naturally, we cut the cake to Europe's "The Final Countdown" (which Bob is singing in the shower as I type). The DJ had a pretty standard selection of songs, which I wasn't overly happy with, but it was fine, and people danced.

At some point we were considering hiring a friend of ours who is a DJ in LA, but I was wary about hiring a friend and having to rent AV equipment in Phoenix, so I didn't. Then we moved here and started listening to his radio show [link] it was, regrettably, EXACTLY what we wanted at our wedding. Oh, well.

Now, if you'd read my book you'd know that was a song written by a gay, alcoholic dwarf for a dim and lumpy rentboy. But I'm sure that will just enhance the memory for you, life being filled with choice ironies.
