Simon: I'm trying to put this as delicately as I can... How do I know you won't kill me in my sleep? Mal: You don't know me, son. So let me explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

Can BofA and ING disappear tomorrow

If all the depositors at those banks decided that they all want their money back at the same time, then yes, POOF!, they're gone.

and take my pittance with them?

No. All deposits at those banks are insured. As long as you have less than $100K in each account, the government will give your money back.

I have been spending the day catching up with news and I just want to go home and drink cocoa and read Georgette Heyer novels. Why everything have to be so bad? And stupid? I am so tired of the stupid, pointless melodrama. Oh, for leadership.

Ann, that's a ferret.

Can BofA and ING disappear tomorrow and take my pittance with them?

For values of "pittance" that cover a deposit account of less than $100,000, no. Deposit insurance will cover that.

And Tom, I'm going to quibble. It isn't $100,000 per account -- it's $100,000 per bank.

The handcuffs are now hanging from my cubicle.

And how many people outside of law enforcement and porn can say that?

Re: lunch. I had homemade lentil soup and a blackberry yogurt. It was tasty enough, but I'm hungry again.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

In other non-stabbinatory news, here's the trailer for that bad Disney movie Matt Damon mentioned: [link]

why don't people realize that grabbing money from the bank makes everything worse.

ION - I am so over trying to coordinate something with mac's best friend. His parents have only ever let him hang out at our place once. And every suggestion they counter with when I invite him over for a playdate is for mac to come for a sleepover. Sleepovers are near impossible for us during the school year (Fri night couseling, Sat Karate, Sun church and uncle time). And after 2 sleepovers there this summer I kinda don't like what I hear about them: No bedtime at all, kids playing until 1-2am, mac sleeping in the child's bed while the child slept with the parents in a different room or everyone sleeping on the floor. ugh - he needs some new friends.

Another good thing just happened--I found out I don't have to work job #3 on Sunday, since they don't have any clients scheduled at that office. The clerk did ask if I wanted to drive over to the Elmhurst office to work there on Sunday instead, but I said no after asking if they really needed me. When I was hired, I was told it was for the Arlington Heights office only.

He did warn me that the following Sunday at the AH office is already shaping up to be as bad, if not busier, than this past one, so I'll be picking up some extra hours then, which is fine with me. I'd rather drive in for 5-6 hours on one day than 2-3 hours two separate days--saves on gas.

Bankruptcy law is probably the most stable job out there right now.

It's kind of entertaining how my job slots neatly between those two things.

The National Review just pointed out another way that McCain's little "I'm not going to the debate/I'm going to the debate" stunt might backfire on him--it's made him very unpopular down at Ole Miss. A nationally-televised debate in front of a live audience hostile to one of the debaters is not a good thing for said debater.

Hmmmmm, I wonder if he pissed off the techies? "Can we get the green and blue lights on McCain, please?" "But he'll look like a walking corpse." "Yes. Yes he will." "Green and blue it is."
