I always thought the name Serenity had a vaguely funereal sound to it.

VoteReport

On November 4th 2008, millions of Americans will go to over 200,000 distinct voting locations and using different systems and machinery to vote. Some voters will have a terrific experiences, and others will experience the same problems we have been hearing about for years - long lines, broken machines, inaccurate voting rolls, and others will experience problems that we haven't heard about before. Using either Twitter.com, iPhone, direct SMS, or our telephone hotlines, voters will have a new way to share these experiences with one another and ensure that the media and watchdog groups are aware of any problems.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

Wow. The trip home was just filled with "I hate people" moments.

First, I tried to return an unopened red filter to the camera store and was told that they did not give refunds, only store credit. WTF? The time limit is also supposedly only 5 days, but they didn't seem to check that.

Then I had to get all Brooklyn on MUNI when people wouldn't move into the middle of the car to make room for the people coming on. Even when the door wasn't closing and we couldn't go. Seriously, at one point people in the middle got up to move to the doorway for the next stop and no one around them took the seats.

And, a young guy (sitting in the section where you are supposed to give up your seat for seniors or disabled people) just casually watched me as I made sure that one of the two elderly women in front of him got a seat as it emptied.

“Not dead yet!”

In completely random natter, I want to learn how to ballroom/Latin dance. There is nowhere anywhere remotely convenient in this godforsaken town.

Bah.

Love the idea of Zeppelin rides. Hopefully sans flaming ball of death outcome.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Hec, can you still take sightseeing flights around San Francisco in a DC-3? I regret not doing that when I lived there.

Yeah, they use helium now. And they wanted to use helium back in the 30s, but the US (the only source of helium) wouldn't sell any to the bad Nazis....

Oh, under AK law, Ted Stevens can't vote for himself, as he's a convicted felon.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

There is also no guarantee that they won't find support. There are very many times when teens are convinced that their parents will not be supportive, and then are shocked and relieved to find that their parents are understanding.

Somewhat in response to this, and the whole rest of the conversation, I'd like to encourage anyone who has contact with a non-daughter teenager to let her know how much you can be there for her. (Or non-son, for that matter.) When I was in high school, my aunt explicitly told me that if there was ever anything I needed that I couldn't go to my parents about, I could go to her, and it was an amazing thing to hear. I never did have to do go her for anything, but it was a great thing to have in my back pocket.

For what it's worth.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Appealing to shopping/google-fu: I'm looking for an attractive memo/message board for my kitchen. The French memo boards are nice but I'm not finding anything pretty that I like.
