Man, I love the internet. First Prince Show on SNL was Feb 04 [link] , Losers Lounge was May/Jun 04 [link] so theoretically, we should have known.

OMG- not even Interview with a Vampire?
Also, the copy of Cry to Heaven that I had had a cover blurb that started "Join the glittering world of 18th century castrati..." and my BF and I only have to say those words and we crack up.
Also, I am just realzing that Anne Rice was a little obsessed with "sexless" beings who have sex, kinda sorta.
I usually mention Anne Rice's Cry To Heaven in the lecture. This is the first year I've had a class where no one knew who she was. Even mentioning Interview with a Vampire didn't get a response.
::facepalms::
Three of the kids in the class had Twilight books with them, though, and claim to "love" vampires.

Kat! Apple Pan?
I think ita should take that attending home and call him George.
I think I was prety obnoxious once I got drugged. Everytime anyone asked me what I wanted to do next I told them it was between the attending and my specialist--I'd follow their lead. I even told the attending I had an irrational fear of being admitted and he honoured that and upped my next dose instead of telling me to sign myself in. Hell, he gave me a third dose, which most doctors won't.
Wait, so we're up a Kat P? I should act gracious about this, but, go team SoCAl!
So maybe the Twilight books will give Rice's some new life. Are the Twilight books as poorly written as Rice's?
ION, I just had to rip out 4 inches of knitting. Poop.
Are the Twilight books as poorly written as Rice's?
Worse.
Wow, so these kid's should be encouraged to move up to Rice. That hurts to write.
Point to what Barb said and shakes head in agreement with msbelle.
Think of it this way—Rice at least embraces the inherent sensuality and sexuality of the supernatural—the no-holds barred where life, as it were, is concerned. Conversely Meyer actively works to repress it, unless it's conducted within a narrowly defined scope. Her world of the vampire is ascetic and almost monk-like.
I think Rice was actually a very skilled and evocative writer early on, before the purple prose gobbled her up and ran away.
