"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Huh. Billy Beane, the A's general manager, has an op-ed piece in the NYTimes (coauthored with Newt Gingrich and John Kerry) advocating changes to the healthcare system similar to the stats revolution in baseball.

I do agree with him, and it's odd that insurance is so stats driven and healthcare isn't. I remember when Oregon first put together it's statewide healthcare program one of the things they did was to prioritize statistically where the least amount of money would have the greatest effect. (Which turned out to be treating bacterial based pneumonia. The cost/benefit there was the biggest bang for the buck.)

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I heard on the news that Ted Kennedy is working on a massive universal healthcare bill, to be introduced early in the next Congress.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

My job is kind of funny. I made what I think of as a pretty significant error, and no one seems to mind. Granted, it is the kind of error that results in a delay not a disaster, but still. I'm all ready to beat myself up, and everyone else is like, "Well, shit happens!" Um, OK...

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

That would be quite a legacy for Ted. Most probably the last major legislation he'd propose in his career.

The other day I was thinking about how much perception of Angelina Jolie has changed over the years.

Remember when she was the freaky girl with the knife collection, the vaguely skeevy relationship with Billy Bob, the incestuous nuzzling of her brother and the vial of blood around her neck?

Now she's the madonna of the world. Which no doubt annoys Madonna.

A short film supporting Obama from Ron Howard (and Andy Griffith, and Henry Winkler).

I'm starting to think Obama might win this thing.

The mere fact that Indiana is a toss-up state suggests that Obama will.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Gud, I won't believe it until the morning after his acceptance speech when I see the headlines in multiple places.

OK, so while I'm supposed to be dedicating all my attention to my tech support customers, I've got a Stargate: Atlantis fic open in another screen. Someone else's that is. It's set when Cadman was occupying Rodney's body (Cadman's a woman, for those that don't know), and she's observing his extreme efforts to keep her from noticing anything while he takes a pee. The word "tinkle" is used.

I glance over to the chat screen, where my customer has just used the phrase "What magic sprinkle did you just spread all over my computer? It works!"

It hurts when your brain locks up.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Theo is me. I just don't trust the current administration to let go that easily, especially to the opposing party. I hate to be paranoid, but I could totally see them trying to contrive something the extend Shrub beyond his allotted time. The only thing that encourages me on that front is that Shrub sure seems to be acting like a lame duck.
