They thought Shirley wasn't rock and roll enough for the albums. But it would be weird to dub her on TV when she had a world famous musical theater voice.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.
I feel weird. I think my impressions of cities came from news and other non-fiction sources. Well, other than, say. Manchester. Anything I thought about Manchester was overwritten by Life On Mars, unflatteringly.
Or visiting, of course.
In fact, once I moved to LA I then queued up LA movies to see what I was supposed to think. All those Clueless and Swingers refs went right over my head.
