For what it is worth, I keep a stash of Emergen-C packets of vitamin powder. On several occasions when I've been sure I was getting sick, they staved it off. Since they basically have the same vitamins I take anyway in the same or lower quantities, I don't know why. Maybe because it is in powder form you dissolve in liquid, so more of it gets absorbed more quickly? Anyway, while I guarantee nothing, I thought I'd mention it in case it works for anybody else.
Spike's Bitches 42: Which question do you want me to answer first?
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
As a person who is congenitally late, I feel I have considerable authority when I say, "Yes, he's an asshat." I am usually about 15 minutes late, but I explain, I apologize, I call and I grovel. My main problem is that, even though I am normally a pessimist, I am irrationally optimistic about the amount of time it will take me to get somewhere.
ginger is me. BTW, did you get my email?
Anyway, while I guarantee nothing, I thought I'd mention it in case it works for anybody else.
works for me as well.
The Emergen-C route has never worked for me, and I envy those for whom it does. I just end up with a terrible headache (from the high dose of vitamin C) and a sketchy stomach. Zinc has sometimes helped curtail a cold, but not always. Unfortunately, we couldn't find any medicine we recognized today, so I'm rationing for the planes tomorrow. Wish me luck!
Shir, you've had a hell of a year. I'm so sorry. {{{{{Shir}}}}} Here's to things getting a lot better for you and your family soon. Hang in there and come vent here when you need to, okay?

!!!!!!
Want! That first one especially is SO COOL.
Tons of feel-better ~ma for Bitches who are sick or in pain. I will jump on the Emergen-C bandwagon, also. It does seems to fend off most colds. Since none is available for Sparky, I will just wish her luck.
Fay, that is ridiculous. What a complete jerk. I am like Ginger--often overly optimistic and therefore sometimes a little late--but I always feel terrible about it and apologize, and I'm almost never more than 15 minutes past when I was supposed to be there.
In unrelated news, the weather is gorgeous in Pasadena right now. I'm sitting out on my patio grading papers, and it's the perfect temperature. Not too hot, not too cold.

Well, I thought my ankle was okay and it mostly is. Unless I happen to graze the bone directly. The entire side of the foot's a wee sensitive as well.
I had good intentions of going to the grocery store. However, the idea of having to use the clutch does not fill me with joy.
I'ma sit in bed and watch football.
Fay, that is beyond ridiculous. In my world, we're past "talking to" time and into "once more and you're out". But I was raised in hard-ass old-school theatre manners.

Ditto. I can't complain too much, though. Today is the first day since March the temp has been 78 degrees. Granted tomorrow will creep back into the low 80's; however, Fall may finally have arrived in Central Florida.
I told DH the next house has to have an enclosed porch where we can enjoy day's like this.

So much WANT!
Can't we all just get along? Youtube vid from CuteOverload: [link]
I agree with DebetEsse, and I wasn't raised in a hard-ass old-school theater manners.
Then again, I have my tight-ass-bitch reputation as fan productions producer/manager. I prefer to look at it as "you said you'd do something, I expect you to keep your word, or tell me so I can replace you. Don't be childish, don't hide things from me for I'm gonna try to make things as smooth and fun as can be, and for the love of God, don't you even think about playing games with me". I can see why some people can confuse this with tight ass bitching, but those people never tasted the stuff I bring for production meetings, and my people always came back when they could.
Thanks, Kristin and all. Writing here sure is venting; I got several calls from friends telling me they're sorry for my loss of my friend, and they know nothing of my grandfather's situation or my other relatives who are dying/passed away by now. And I'm never sure how to tell about it, even to my close friends and not to the ones who pick up the phone after 2-3 months we haven't met in or talk. "Yes, it sucks, and btw, my grandfather's also dying now and I'm in a funeral every other week" doesn't exactly rolls on my tongue, and when they do call, I prefer to enjoy talking with them and catching up; I can brood and be sad on my own, dammit.
The friends' "wake" changed date; Instead I went out with a friend. Drank a little bit, so I apologize for any "eh, Shir? This isn't really English" mistakes. Also, got a call from the parental unit, telling me they're sick, so we won't be visiting my grandfather tomorrow after all. I looked forward for this, but I know the first chance we have we'll do it.
And on this opportunity I'd like to thank Tom Waits.
