Spike's Bitches 42: Which question do you want me to answer first?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

aw, sorry to hear that Connie.

Yay for Nicole!

So after 2 months or so with my dining room stuffed with boxes, I have given them and the packing papers away. Someone posted some items for sale in the mailbox area, so I got a toaster, she got a ton of boxes. After driving away with an suv packed, she returned with a pretty printed Chinese fan as a thank you. Shame she's moving. She's nice. Funny thing, she's moving to LA, where the boxes came from.

Just call me "Siouxsie Shunshine".

Congrats, Nicole!

How long have you lived in Florida? Cuz that's where my dad's family is from. Different part of the state, though - Pensacola, Quincy, Tallahassee.

I've lived in Jacksonville and Orange Park (in the 70's), Clearwater, Tampa, New Port Richey, Pensacola and Homosassa/Crystal River. Plus I lived in Tallahassee for 3 summers for grad school.

Sorry, connie. I hope they revisit your resume!

GC, neutering for Loki was $180ish, and male snipping is routinely cheaper. (All the shots, tests, deworming, etc were another $150ish.) My vet did say going through the eta: aspca humane society would be cheaper and suggested that, but I hate making appts cold, I was feeling nervous and I trust my vet. The aspcas here are cheaper due to subsidy and pro-bono work. I'd call other vets for quotes if you are otherwise happy with the vet.

(The local aspca site point out that adopting from them is cheaper than not. But sometimes that isn't an option!)

Birthday happies to Cash, Matt, and Megan!

The most I have ever spent on a spay was $90. And it was one of those "OMG you have to spay this cat today while she's in heat or I'll let her get knocked up just to shut her up!" Of course this was a small town vet, and nine years ago. The vets in Cleveland did not seem horribly more expensive than the small town Ohio vets I took my cats to way back when.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Congrats, Nicole!

I talked to my adviser today. We pretty much agreed that I'm going to have to take at least an extra semester, and possibly an extra year, to finish my thesis. I'm kind of upset, but also kind of relieved, since worrying about getting it done by May or August was getting me really stressed out. The university won't renew my funding, but my parents said they'd help out. (Just praying for AIG to stay solvent now -- they're about half my dad's firm's caseload.)

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

And I've got a picture up now.

See, this is how come I knew you were you! Foamy!

Woot, Nicole! Congratulations!

Congratulations Nicole!

Happy birthday, to Cashmere, Matt, and Megan!

And now for something completely different:

At what point should I become concerned if Jeeves is exhibiting cold symptoms? I think he picked up a bug when I took him to the vet on Thursday. He's sneezy and lethargic, and his nose is wet and very warm to the touch. He's still eating, and while very low in energy, doesn't seem withdrawn or in distress.

I'm calling the vet in the morning, but is there anything that should send up a go-to-the-emergency-vet red flag

Calling the vet in the morning is exactly what I would do with those symptoms. Just in case there are further developments, or for future reference, here is a handy dandy guide to sorting symptoms that are emergencies from non-emergencies [link]

See, this is how come I knew you were you! Foamy!

Aw, shucks. I felt foamy. And I was in exceptionally foamy company that night. Too bad you couldn't make it - you could have whipped us into froth.
