But then I remember the debacle of 2004, with people turning out in record numbers to vote, and always, throughout history, people turn out in record numbers to throw the bum out, not keep the bum in -- but then...they did. (The Ohio results being rigged for Bush nothwithstanding.)
Preachin' to the choir, sister. Given that my state doesn't exactly have a great rep with the last couple of elections.
But still... given how freakin' RED Northeast Florida is, to see those kinds of numbers at least out in support warms the cockles of my little black heart.
I'm also mildly amused that Palin's first campaign stop in Florida is at a retirement village north of Orlando.
Am making vegetarian chili for a party tonight, and the whole house smells yummmmmmmy.
Must be something in the air - I bought stuff to make veggie chili tomorrow night.
Must be something in the air - I bought stuff to make veggie chili tomorrow night.
Must be, since I mentioned over in Natter that I bought the fixings to make chili too.
And I just pulled banana bread from my oven and the whole house smells heavenly-- I tossed in a handful each of butterscotch and chocolate chips.
Mmmmm...
Interrupting politics talk with a personal Grr, Argh.
So, I've been taking Matilda to visit with my dad after church every Sunday since she was a couple of months old. Barring a few missed days due to sickness, Emmett events, or rare and precious visits from seriously out of town Buffistas, Sundays from 12-2 have belonged to Matilda and Papou since, like, forever. And he and I have talked and talked and talked about doing her second birthday party the weekend of the 27th-28th, immediately after her actual birthday, for months. He knows my brother Chris is flying down. He knows my mom works Saturdays and can never make it to any kid-related event unless it's on a Sunday. And he went and scheduled something (I have no idea what, could be anything from a golf game to a fund-raiser for something or other) for noon next Sunday and is astonished that this isn't totally convenient for everyone else.
I mean, fuck. I know damn well I should have spelled it out, not just said, "Let's do it at your place that weekend," but "Let's do it on Sunday, at the same time that we always do your Sunday with Matilda, because that's when your son will be here and that's the only day that will work for her only other local grandparent," but I just feel fucking sick of being the one to organize everything, trying to make everyone in the family happy, and having nobody else notice anything else anyone else is doing at any point, ever. Mostly I'm annoyed at myself for fucking things up for my brother, flying in from Portland for, apparently, nothing.
On the other hand, Matilda herself couldn't care less, and is right now occupied with worrying about the Pee-Wee Herman doll falling down and trying to prop him up next to Snow White so they can keep each other company. I'm clinging to that. That, and the evaporation of McCain's lead in a couple of recent polls.
Think you could nick the flaming spear so's we could beat Shrubwit with it?
PLEASE!!!!!!

Is she going to the Villages? That place needs nuts. I think it is part of the "deed restriction" that everyone own a golf cart.
Yea, askye! I hope things go well with the F2F.
Target. Sigh, I love Target. Probably the fact that the closest one is 30 min away keeps me from spending more there; however, when I do go it's at least a $100 visit.
It took 3 book stores in Ocala to find the new edition of Bust with Jilli. I did find it though!
in a couple of recent polls.
Dozens upon dozens, actually. Predictions not actually real reality yadda yadda yadda, but if it helps to cheer you up a mite...
JZ, grrrr. How frustrating.
But yes, the most recent round of polling has been overwhelmingly happy-making.

Yep-- that's where she's going.

JZ, do you mean, he scheduled something else that's not Matilda-centric and is now expecting you guys to arrange your schedules around it?
And I feel your pain on the feeling like you're the only one who arranges and concerns yourself with others. ::hugs JZ::

Barb, yes, that exactly. And when I emailed him back pointing out that the only other time that would work, his entire response was "Yes, Saturday night could work..."
Um. No. Ask me how much Hec and Emmett are going to want to drive across the bridge on a Saturday evening, how much my mom and aunt are going to want to haul ass into Oakland after full days of working retail, and how completely stupid it is to have a two-year-old's birthday at seven on a Saturday night.
I think we're going to just move it to a park near his house at two and tell him, "Make it when and if you can; the people who take precedence are the guy with the non-refundable ticket and the birthday girl herself, and this is what works for them."
Because, you know, I'm always straightforward and honest and forthright with my dad just like that, and it'll be just that easy.
Thank God my evening plans tonight consist of "Go drink vodka with megan, juliana and Perkins."
