Spike's Bitches 42: Which question do you want me to answer first?
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Teppy, I wish I could attend the cardboard boat races. When DH and I master/mommed the Cub Scouts, the Pinewood Derby was just such an event. SO much fun for the kids, and the adults, too. I don't think we ever outgrow wanting to watch things go fast--and crash (or sink) spectacularly. Pictures, please.
Oh my god. SO much fun! It was mostly adults, although there was a heat for kids to race. The Boy's brother came in first place in his group!!! Some of the boats were amazing -- there were paddlewheel boats, where the person in the boat actually pedalled a contraption, like a bike. There were really creatively-designed boats that didn't go fast (and sometimes didn't go at all) -- one was a 4-poster bed, one was a teacup that just kept going around in circles, one was a John Deere tractor, one was a boat with a dragon head prow.
Here's The Boy's brother's boat: [link] And in the water: [link]
We even went to the cardboard boat "museum," which is a garage, and saw the boats of races gone by, and LOOK what I found there: [link] It even had a soundtrack. Hand to god, it had a stereo in it that played a continual look of the ominous Bat-music.

OMG-- 2 1/2 hours of a teacher/parents meeting.
I'ma gonna have to do a lot of tongue-biting the first nine weeks of the year and wait to see how things shake down. I think this teacher's philosophical ideologies are okay, but her method of stating them is entirely too precious and twee, especially since we're talking about a gifted freakin' class here.
Not to mention, she mentioned a few things that were directly contradictory.
Oy, this is when my having been not only an elementary school teacher, but one with a specialty in gifted ed is not necessarily a good thing. Good thing I have a strict hands off policy in my own kids' classes.
eating while standing, same thing. Oh, and picking out of fridge, while standing with fridge door open actually BURNS calories.
I stand corrected! So THAT must be why Valentine's Candy never bothers me. My birthday is the same month.
Just as I was writing this the power went out and it just, finally came back on. Yet another reason to detest this county.
Happy Birthday, DebetEsse!!!
{{{{Sean}}}} I'm so sorry.
We spent all day cleaning up everything in the apartment that weeks of depression had me ignoring and then cooked dinner for TCG's dad and stepmom. So exhausted now.
I couldn't watch the debates, the last two episodes of Veronica Mars season 1 came. What a mind fuck! I'm so glad I didn't have to wait a week in between them. Also glad season 2 is next up in the queue so I don't have to wait all summer to find out who's at the door.
to find out who's at the door.
There's more at the door. There's more at the door. There's more at the door!!!
t /TOMMY reference
sorry about that. songs already stuck in head.
Wow what a bad Who fan I am. I totally can't place the reference.
dangit I found a page that claims to have the entire libretto but I can't get it to load past page one. The record is one of the things I left behind in Chicago. I wonder if D has it on CD.
towards the end of the show, what prompts opening Tommy's Holiday Camp, since all the followers can't fit in his home "there's more at the door..."
my mind's a blank between Pinball Wizard and "you know where to put the cork". Maybe it's time to add the movie to my netflix queue.
edit: yippee! Instant viewing!
Tommy was my first (grown-up type) album ever, inherited from my sister. I know every song from beginning to end. I have performed the entire album many, many times to an imaginary audience of thousands. I wish there were video of 8 or 9 year-old me singing Acid Queen (a song which made NO sense to me at the time.)
It's still one of my favorite albums.
