I use the word "ladies" when I tell a mom and daughter(s) at the bookstore to "Have a good week, ladies!" The daughters are usually very young, and they get a kick out of being called "lady." I use the word "gentlemen" in similar situations with men and their sons, so I'm being equally old-fashioned.
Spike's Bitches 42: Which question do you want me to answer first?
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Another place for "female"--police reports. Where I'd be female cauc, blonde/blue, 34.possibly armed with nailgun. "Ladies" will always make me think of Jean Harris' prison memoir."They Always Call Us Ladies" And the group home I used to live in. Because I made a Big Deal about no longer being a girl. So I got Jean Harris instead. Sigh. But I still say if all the other apartments were full of women, and there were 2 guys, they wouldn't make them "the boys"
Heh. With teams named after bees, wasps, and the like, I always think they should go for biological accuracy. Make the women's team the Yellow Jackets and men's team the Doomed Stingerless Drones.
It's my turn to fangirl!
OMG amych is so hot.
This talk of, 'just because The Lady Vols do it doesn't make it OK' reminds me of the Washington Redskins. WTF is up with that name? I bristle every time I hear it. Not enough to, you know, actually do anything about it but sheesh! What century is this?
On the other hand it was only recently that I found out "midget" is as bad a derogatory term as any. My edumacation never ends.
In other news, I'm glad "Flipping Out" is over. I was beginning to become obsessed with the L.A. real estate market. And Psycho Jeff...
Just think of us as your... bra, that's how supportive we are. A big, frilly-lace, underwire, half-a-dozen stays, strapping into battle armor, anti-sag device. Also, w00t, getting married!
Love this like whoa!
Oh, I also use ladies when I'm at the juvenile hall, which cracks DF up. When they start getting too wild, I'll say, "Okay ladies, let's bring it down a notch." And it works!
On the other hand it was only recently that I found out "midget" is as bad a derogatory term as any.
DF says the appropriate terminology is "little person," but sometimes she lies.
I believe that is preferred by most little people, yes. Somewhere there is an Indian team that plays as the Whiteys, complete with Colonel Sanders-like mascot.
According to "Little People, Big World," either "little person" or "dwarf" is appropriate, with "little person" or "LP" seeming to be preferred.
