To want to know or understand the differences in that part of the world requires an intellectual curiosity that many people who work fourteen or fifteen hour days just to keep from losing their homes or food on the table, simply don't have time for. That's frivolous time, reserved for the "elitists" who, with their fancy Ivy-League educations, think they're better than "us."

I don't understand this at all. I think this is a bullshit excuse. I regularly work fourteen and fifteen hour days and I am plenty intellectually curious.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

I don't understand this at all.

I do. People suck! (not just the people that Barb was describing, all of 'em)

I think it is really dishonest of the Republican candidates to imply that they are just like those people when McCain doesn't even know how many houses he owns!

It doesn't matter if he IS "just like them," as long as they FEEL like he is "just like them."

How many times have I said "I hate everybody"?

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Oh, and I am a them, too-- work 14 -15 hour days (although in theatre, so you can argue that I am elitist just for that) and grew up poor, and am still fairly poor.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

It doesn't matter if he IS "just like them," as long as they FEEL like he is "just like them."

That's the thing that makes me insane with Bush -- he may actually BE the scion of an old rich Yankee family, and he may have actually gone to prep school and the Ivy League, but he SEEMS like your cousin Joe who hasn't been quite right since he smashed 24 beer cans on his forehead. And people like that!! ?? !!

Ugh.

Sean, I'm not saying it's not a bullshit excuse, but that it's a common excuse. The difference, I think, is that the Dems are saying, "Here, think and make up your mind," while the Repubs are saying, "Don't waste valuable time doing anything like thinking. We'll do that for you. We'll make decisions for you. You just run along and spend time with your families."

Oh, I know you're right in most cases. I just think it's BS.

(And just to be clear, I don't think you or what you're saying is BS, I think it's BS from the people who actually think that way)

What bugs SO MUCH about that is how many Texans, who otherwise claim that you can only be born a Texan, accept him as a Real True Texan.

HE'S A YANKEE!

HE'S A YANKEE!

Born in New Haven, Connecticut, in fact. You can't get much more Yankee than that without a nod from Joe Torre.
