Hi y'all. School started yesterday. Oof. I ran into one of the kids who hassled me and N and K this summer when we were walking by the school.

I was with another teacher and I walked up to him and said, "Chris, you're one of the few white kids here which means it's easy to remember you. I heard you this summer threatening me and my family. I reported it to the school police. You better pray nothing ever happens to us, not even a tagged word on one of our trash cans or an accident that causes us harm. Because you're the first person the police will come after."

He blinked and I walked away.

I accidentally heard some of Romney's speech on the way home and I just... argh. It was all strawmen, from beginning to end. Liberals hate businessmen, liberals think big government makes America strong (um, does he think the DOD is private enterprise), and he managed to refer to the mortgage crisis and in the next sentence advocate deregulation. WTF.

Damned punk kids.

Thanks, Kat. You and the kids have often been in our thoughts as well. I would update S on their progress as you would report, and show her pictures as they would appear. For all the stress I've been through with her health, I can only imagine what you've been through. I hope all is well with you and your family.

Keith Olbermann referred to her as Tracy Flick from Election. Make me snort.

As much as I don't agree with Palin's positions, I do think she delivered a good speech last night. Got her base energized, made the Repub's fall in love with her, and provided Obama fodder that they could eat up. I don't agree with what she said, but I do think it was delivered well and hit the mark she was aiming for.

One of McCain's staff off-handedly admitted that they'd had to rewrite the speech in a hurry, to make it more "feminine"-sounding. That's right, they had the speech all ready, they just hadn't picked (or vetted) the person to deliver it.

Thankfully, I was too stressed out about other things to get all worked up about the convention speeches, but I heard Giulianni and Palin last night. What a bunch of complete BS. Straw men, outright lies and fabrications, and every time they listed a problem that McCain and Palin would solve as President, I couldn't help but think "BUT THE REPUBLICANS CAUSED THOSE PROBLEMS WITH THE VERY 'SOLUTIONS' YOU'RE TOUTING!"

And Giulianni smeared the "Liberal Media" in his speech. I'm SO FUCKING TIRED of hearing about the "Liberal Media" because it DOESN'T FUCKING EXSIST (at least in mainstream).

Even NPR is at best centrist. Almost every time they mention McCain, the append the word "maverick" to his name, and occasionally spout Repub talking points. Not something I'd expect from the "Liberal Media."

I had to turn off NPR and listen to bad hippy rock this morning it was making me so mad!

Sean, I hope S is way better today and that you can have some relief from all the stress.
