I had no idea that there were school systems that still did that - pretty cool.
The schools in my town always started the Wednesday after Labor Day, unless Labor Day ended up really late that year. I'm pretty sure they still do it that way. (I just checked the calendar on the town website, and that's the way they're doing it this year.)

School always started in the first 2 weeks of August. Still does down there. If we ran at all into June, we were resentful.
