I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Okay, now you done just made me cry, as I came in here to freak out about my cat being missing for two days, which she's never done in her life (except for that first month where she fell asleep in some nook in the basement and didn't re-emerge, all blinky and yawning two days later, all "what?").

And now I feel horrible that my possible last memory of her is being scooting her butt unceremoniously out the door because she wouldn't make up her mind and I had to get to work.

And she's never gone further than the bushes in front of the apartment, AFAIK, and I walked both apartment complexes shaking her tin of snicky snacks, chewing gum while chain-smoking cuz she's knows the scent, checked all the basements and laundry rooms and wells and even the dumpsters to see if there was a fly-ridden body.

A sweet little boy helped me look and showed me the always-open basements in the other buildings and the ones with the smashed windows and suggested open manhole covers and poisoning by neighbors.

Tomorrow is the suburban neighborhood next door in addition to posters.

I'm torn between a hopeful but agonizingly painful "she's just punishing me and she'll show up in a couple of days" and just starting the grieving process now, which just feels like a horrible betrayal. Either way I'm a complete fucking mess and have resisted taking off of work to look because I don't want to cry all day thinking about her.

How the heck can people have kids if I'm hysterical over a cat? Granted, I bottle fed her, but, still, a cat? I think I'd drop dead on the spot if I had a child gone missing.

Should I also check local vets in case someone picked her up?

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

{{{juliebird}}} God, that's tough.

Should I also check local vets in case someone picked her up?

I think that's a good idea, and you can also call the local shelter and let them know she's missing. But I wouldn't give up just yet - cats do this. There is every chance she's holed up somewhere nearby and will pop up at the door soon.

Hugs to you both.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Juliebird, I'm sorry to hear your cat has gone off and I hope she comes home to you soon. Meanwhile be good to yourself.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

{{{juliebird}}} I hope you find her very soon.

hip deep in pie

Juliebird, don't give up hope, she's probably just found another nook somewhere. My friend's cat, who had never been outside before, got out and went missing for two weeks once, and was found in the basement stairwell of a house a couple of doors down.

Good luck.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

{{{ju;iebird}}

Are you sure he is not inside. I once called my mother in hysterics because I couldn't find my cat-- I was sure I had let him out. It turned out I locked him in the attic!

Also, cats do do that and you should call the shelter, vets, and maybe ask your apartment neighbors. Maybe she went into someone else's house.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Thanks, everone. I really need all the positive vibes I can get right now, because I've been crying off and on ever since I got home.

What really made me lose hope is that the black and white tom that's always beating them up is still here. So why take my Ply and leave the tom? So I have this horrible feeling that maybe my next door neighbors did something.

I just need to remind myself of my parents cat that disappeared in the middle of a blizzard and showed up the next spring all fat and happy and smelling of a woodstove.

call the local shelter and let them know she's missing

that's a good idea that I hadn't thought of, thanks, brenda.

I definitely scooted her butt out the door the other morning. But I have checked all the closets and under the kitchen sink and under the bed (it's a very small apartment), even though whenever I come home, and she's in, she always rouses herself for a massage. She doesn't care about the wet food like Nunya does (screams for it when I walk in the door, brat), she just always wants touch.
