All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Without bats, there'd be no tequilla.

Three cheers for the bats!

Kiwi has comic potential just for the name.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I also found this somewhat creepy video of Nadia Comaneci visiting Bela Karolyi's training center. [link] The whole "Just like the old days, Bela can make me do anything he wants me to do" thing is just disturbing.

That and the fact that someone ran out and cut four inches off her hair between when she left Costas and flipped across the room to Bela.

I vote papaya for the funny. All those little bb seeds!

Tomorrow we are performing an experiment to see what is funnier when it hits the sidewalk from the patio: A coconut, a papaya, a kiwi, a mango, or a plantain.

Your experiments are so much more fun than ours.

At most, we go to the Superconductivity labs, put soft stuff (erasers, leaves, the like) in the remains of the liquid nitrogen and see how they get all frozen and solid and break instead of bending or moving.

Serial to myself, because, well, a funny thing just happened: you know how my deadline was Thursday? Well, the PhD offices (due to some sort of summer vacation arrangements and bureaucracies) are closed this Thursday.

I'll be handing in my dissertation only on Sunday (our weekends are Friday and Saturday).

I'm schedule-ly confused. Grateful for the extra day-and-a-half, don't get me wrong! Goodness, I'm grateful. Lucky coincidence, all around. But I can practically head my body groans (remember how, in "Dr. Horrible", at the very end of the first part, he makes these funny groans when Hammer keeps banging his head in the van and talks about the lace-y curtains? Something like that, only with "but you promised me I can sleeeeeep tomorrow").

Good day, dissertation. Good fight-with-the-computer. I'll most likely hand you in in the morning.

[Edit: Either that, or "Whines! Whines in new Schedules!"]

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Yay! Glad to hear you'll have another day and a half!

Body of Nilly: you don't really need sleep. Pffft.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I think only a papaya, mango or kiwi has a chance of inflicting collateral damage when used as a weapon. Coconuts need to be opened with chisels and hammers, that's not going to work unless you need to hit just one specific place.

Depending on what the coconut hits, and the force involved, you could get some collateral damage with the victim. That might not be right for a children's book, though.

hip deep in pie

a papaya

Gets my vote. Although, if the coconut smashes, it's comedy gold.

Elfie Schlagle

She's Canadian. She didn't drive me as crazy as the guy, who was so annoying I went to bed.

I generally cheer against the Americans (sorry, but it's true), but it's hard not to like Michael Phelps.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

You can have him helped by friends throwing several things and make a fruit salad.

Oof today my body was not so interested in getting vertical.

I had a 6:40 request from some interns who just started on Monday. They wanted a meeting room reserved and guests entered into the system for a 9am meeting. HA! I was all, I I leave at 5pm, cannot access things from home AND you cannot do things last minute - working for them is NOT my job and yet 2 days in they are taking so much time. Ducks at my ankles!
