Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

Bwah! And, here I was just thinking how beautiful some of the costumes are. NSM in some cases.

Because books.

Hungary's were just ... sad. Well, sad and hideous.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Ok. I gotta bitch. I want to watch Haley Ishimatsu's qualifying dives on NBC. But it's asking me to install Silverlight. Can I even do that? Should I?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

OMG, stop chewing gum, athletes!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I adore the small teams from obscure countries. Because they are.

You're talking about Barbados and not us, right?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I'm talking about Comoros! (Not that you're quoting me....)

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I have to laugh at the idea that some of those countries have fewer citizens than appeared in the opening ceremonies...

The world is weird.

I'm talking about any small team out to give it a try!

brillig

Some of those Middle Eastern and African robes are stunning. I think I could put up with covering my head if I could do it in scarlet with gold embroidery.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

LOVED the opening ceremony!

The Olympics always make me weepy for various reasons. Already cried 3 times.

1. That damned Coke commerical where they highlight their Olympic sponsorships....both Olympic Games and Special Olympics and juxtaposing the images. Love.

2. The flag bearer for the US. What a better person to hold the flag? Real American Dream in its most idealistic.

3. Watching many of the Middle Eastern countries come in with NO WOMEN because women are no better than dogs to them. AND, hearing about the Afghani woman who is seeking asylum because she had the gall to want to compete in an athletic competition even though she has breasts. Pisses me off and hurts me in a deep way.
