Well for two kids, yes it is about the same as an au pair or at least a full day nanny (cheapest nanny rate I've seen is $15/hour and $20/hour is more common).

Childcare is such an interesting thing. On the one hand, I think it's vitally important and should be compensated in a way that shows the importance. On the other, if I could afford to, I would stay home because I like being with N and G and if I compensated a daycare provider the way I know they should be compensated it would be with a salary similar to what I make. Or at least what I net. But why pay that, even though I emotionally know it's deserved, when I could just stay at home if I could afford to do so?

At the end of the day, it's why I feel blessed to have found C, the woman that N adores. In fact, when we get there, the other kids who are at daycare all come to the fence hoping it's their mom or dad. But N? He crawls right back to C hoping to stay and play a little bit longer. I am so thankful that he loves her so much.

It's a weird conundrum. I wonder if I'll feel the same when we get to schooling about which I have even stronger opinions (and better skills than I have for early childhood stuff).

You know, we could experiment and cancel football.

But totally understandable, Ginger.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Wow- my coworker is moving her 2 children to an actual daycare from a woman in a house, and it is going to actually be $1700 a month, and that appears to be the "cheap daycare. And we are in upstate NY, and I don't think my cowworker makes more than a couple of hundred more than that a month. She doesn't even like her job, but she and her husband feel they can't get along without that extra per month. Frankly, I am pretty sure they could, but it would mean huge lifestyle changes.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I seem to remember msbelle mentioning a drippy ceiling?

I just made my plane reservation, so I'm actually indeed going to Vividcon next week. I'm finishing up one course, I'm starting to look for permanent employment, and dammit, I need a Reward, so this is going to be it.

ION, my desktop computer is still at the repair place. SIGH

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh dear.

Swouncing

Ginger, I'm sorry the situation that person put you through was so annoying that it required using harsh language.

msbelle, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. Fingers crossed that the damage is minimal and things are sorted out as easily and quickly as possible.
