That's one spunky little girl you've raised. I'm gonna eat her.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Susan--remember, not knowing a specific something is not a referendum on your intelligence.

I guess I can always use my technique for dealing with certain administrators around here who get sneery when you ask them questions--just remind myself that the person I'm talking to has probably never written a novel, almost certainly knows nothing about Napoleonic-era infantry combat, etc. That usually makes the voices that say, "They think you're STUPID," and "They know you don't belong here," go away. It's just the sheer level of stress I've been having over dealing with this inheritance kinda overwhelmed my relatively recent coping mechanisms.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I get a lot of that. People thinking I'm stupid. I work for physicists. I am usually the dumbest person in the room, on the whole. BUT I AM ALWAYS THE CUTEST.

Sue, my condolences.

I've spent the last counts on fingers 10 months asea. I *am* the dumbest person in the room more often than not. However, this has been great for getting me to get over that particular bit of self-consciousness. It's that or fail, and I hate that even more. It's been really hard, don't get me wrong. And uncomfortable and icky and sometimes I want to crawl under my desk and hide. But by god, when I figure something out, or make a recommendation that people actually follow, I momentarily feel like the biggest genius on the planet.

And then someone asks me a question and I don't even understand the question, much less have an answer.

Oddly, it's probably been good for my confidence long term. Thick of it, NSM.

Pico was lucky that he found S's apartment and that you took him in. Life of Riley cat. =)

Yeah, he had a good life, but he was a good cat. I would often say to Pico that I wish I had 12 cats just like him. You were a good friend for coming too, even though you knew you would cry.
