Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Actress/Waitress!

Now she's just an actress! In Legally Blonde! I think she may have been the last Miss America I paid attention to, which is why she's stuck with me. I think her platform was AIDS prevention, which was pretty radical, too.

Are you kidding me?? I LOVE that Miss Dominican Republic's national costume is like, vaguely applicable to her nation!!! And to her nation today, not just to some vague theme of "my nation three hundred years ago maybe sorta someone kinda wore something like this once? Only longer?" I thought it was awesome!! Beisból for the win, hermanos!!

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

she appears to have spilled some pesto down the side of her dress.

Wow. That's either really bad lighting or really bad clothing design choices. Either way, I think somebody on the Miss Universe staff hates Miss Ukraine.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I think my favorite is Miss Trinidad & Tobago. Her outfit combines a sailor suit with a huge aqua headress that looks like a splash in a swimming pool, thus making itself equally suitable for either "In the Navy" or "YMCA" as the background music when the pride float carries her through Greenwich Village.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

The fug girls totally need to get on the miss universe train.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Miss New Zealand also looks pretty bad ass.

These are the best. links. ever.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I'm disturbed that Miss Ghana's national costume seems to be an interpretation of a watermelon.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Am I just too much of a sap for words if I admit that, having finally gotten around to watching the Discovery Channel Boom-De-Yada commercial on YouTube, I keep rewatching it because it's just so cool and makes me feel all optimistic and happy? I mean, it's a commercial. But it makes me grin. (See shiny new tag.)

Swouncing

And skipping once again, sigh, to post that, according to the Buffista Calendar, today is sj's birthday.

Happy birthday, sj! With lots of wishes for a great day and a wonderful year.

Also, it's Beverly's and her DH's anniversary, so lots of wishes for the day and the coming year for them, as well.
