It seems that almost every corporate decision assumes you have a spouse.
My best "the mail is made of fail" story happened years ago. We had ordered a part for typesetting equipment. When it didn't arrive, I got a replacement. About two years later, I got a very battered box *stamped* "Found in postal equipment thought to be empty." It's the fact that it happens so often they need a rubber stamp that got to me.
Most of them go in early around 6:30 or 7:00 (SO does daycare drop off) so they can do daycare pick up.
I guess we could do it that way. We just got into a habit of me doing both drop off and pick up on certain days and DH on others.
ETA not that it's likely to become an issue, with both of us being university employees. Of course, one of the reasons I
stay
in this environment is it's so easy to put your foot down on family issues.
France makes me want to cry on every level: National costume, Swimwear, and Evening gown . Shouldn't she have one of the best gowns? That is hideous.
Oh, and did you know that if you mail a postcard of a beautiful and/or scantily-clad woman, a postal worker will pin it up at his workstation for a few weeks to look at before sending it on?
(I used to work at a post office.)
I wish the national costumes looked more like my China Dolls from Around the World... These are hysterical, though.
Miss France's evening gown looks suspiciously like certain sorbets I've had. Mango/strawberry, maybe?
Hivemind question: I don't know if it was a movie or a TV show, but I recall a plot where the hero had to save a bus full or people (most like women and children) from a warlike situation in the third world (possibly somewhere in Africa). This was probably sometime in the 90s.
Does anyone know what I am remembering? Did I dream it?
Thanks.
This is not actually an evening gown. I'm not sure what the plan was.
Ugh. I have so little food at home. But I really want to go home and straight to bed with this head. Just have to hold out one more workday. As things stand if I go to the ER tonight I'll probably not be able to make it into the office tomorrow, and I've already worked from home once this very long week.
All of those outfits are hilarious.
Somewhat relatedly, I'm watching the Legally Blonde Broadway try-out reality show, and I'm so glad to see that Kate Schindle is in the cast. I remember when, at the end of her year as Miss America, she moved to NYC and got a waitressing job, because she wanted to be an actress. Good for her!
Someone actually reads the paper edition of The Observer?
Pat Kiernan, at least!
Do any of these people have children in daycare? Because much as I'd love a 4-day work week, I just couldn't do this. Add in commute time, and the daycare just isn't open long enough for me to work a 10-hour day.
That's the thing that seems so crazy to me. Even if you work out the drop-off/pick-up, don't parents want to see their kids in the evenings?
