Yes, they are lumping sound under programming, and you don't even really want a sound engineer, you really do want a designer. Many sound designers kinda suck at the technical end of things, but if they are brilliant artists, then they are what you want.

My college housemates and I had a stack of coloring books that we'd get out when we were fighting with each other and needed to have some sort of discussion. We'd color away while we said our piece, and listened to the rest. We're all still friends, so it seems to have worked out.
