Funny thing about black and white. You mix it together and you get gray. And it doesn't matter how much white you try and put back in, you're never gonna get anything but gray.

Happy Birthday to Dylan tomorrow!!

I was just looking at some blogs to see about the Russert story, and CrooksandLiars was saying how the on-air people at MSNBC were finding it obviously hard to talk about him, understandably so. That reminded me of when Bob Collins, the long-time morning show host for WGN radio here in Chicago, was killed in a plane crash. The sad thing was that the on-air people were having to talk about this news story of a plane crash without discussing their fears that it was their friend and co-worker who was the pilot (they knew he was going to be flying in and out of that small local airport and what his plane looked like, so the footage of the crash only strengthened their fears). It wasn't until a few hours after the crash that his identity was released and they could finally grieve in public.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Kathy, a similar thing happened to the FOX affiliate in LA. One of the guys that worked with the morning show was killed in a plane crash and watching the anchors hold it together and watching one of them totally break was so hard.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

I had the best lunch.

I am so jealous.

t goes back to "lunch" of carrots, celery, and tomatoes (yes, they were on the vine)

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I went to the farmers' market last night and everything looked so good! fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, cheeses, even soap! I went a little overboard (thyme scones! lettuce! cherries! cherry sables!), but it just looked so good.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Thai has failed to materialise. I must go anywhere other than the cafe in this building. The food in there is killing me with it's slightly heavy sameness.

I am so jealous.

Well the best aspect is I can walk from work regularly to replicate this lunch. though it would be too expensive to do so. But it was of the yum.

I must go anywhere other than the cafe in this building.

I can understand that. In the 6 years I've worked in the district, I can count on one hand the number of times I've eaten food provided on campus. And even then, it was pizza that the district had purchased from Pizza Hut.

I slipped in class today and said something rude and inappropriate. A girl whom I'd never really taken a good look at it when she was not seated at a desk, complained about being fat as she walked up to my desk to turn something in. She's not fat. Just pregnant. I sort of pointed that out.

Also, learned a new term today: Anchor Baby. It's the baby that some teen illegal immigrants are convinced to have to anchor them to the US so they won't be deported. Sick.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

IME, the usage is more the baby that some teen illegal immigrants anti-immigration ranters are convinced to that all illegal immigrants come here specifically to have to anchor them to the US so they won't be deported. That's certainly where I keep hearing it come up.

But it's not like I'm tied in to the immigrant community like I was when I used to work with refugees, so I can't say on that. I guess I can see the term being used on both sides, actually.

Ugh, either way, for the formers' attitudes and the latters' situation.

ETA: Sorry! Forgot to close a tag.

Brenda, I had never heard it before. It came up in a convo at a school site (not the one I'm at) about the fact that the pregnancy rate at the school had gone from 2 last year (and 3 I think the year before) to 8 or 9 this year. They were discussing the clinic they've had on campus etc. etc.
