"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

We all heard about this on NPR this morning right? [link] Surprise yourself!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, now I wish I had ordered a few weeks ago, when it first came up here. Now it'll be ruined!

("No one goes there any more -- it's way too crowded!")

Punishingly Intricate

I just hope stormy doesn't happen before I have a chance to pick up my dog and walk him! (also, really really hope it doesn't do something crazy like knock out power!)

It's already overcast, but not storming here.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Lung cancer kills more Americans than any other type of cancer, but lags significantly behind many other cancers in research money, because it's hard to get people behind preventing a cancer that many view as the "fault" of the victim. If you smoked for a couple of years back when you were young and stupid, but quit 30 years ago, your heart and lung function improves, but you still have a significantly higher chance of cancer.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Thanks to Kat's push up post I had to go neurotically check how many I can do in one set. 20. Good to know I guess.

My stretch teacher (the one I ADORE) ran off to the Czech Republic a few months ago and I sorely need a new source for exercise. I'm thinking of signing up the kids for swim lessons at the Y, maybe I should just get a family membership.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Rank means that he was misbehaving - fighting his rider. . .which he was.

Thanks! That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure.

Operation Lets Muslim Women Reclaim Virginity

The thing that gets me about the hymen thing is...I didn't bleed my first time, and in an informal survey during a discussion of the Magic Misplaced Hymen as found in many romance novels, I was in the majority, not the minority. Even allowing for all the lifestyle factors that would make it more likely for a American or European girl to be a hymen-free virgin than one from a traditional Muslim society, I still wonder just how many women have suffered for "crimes" they never committed down through the years...

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

I still wonder just how many women have suffered for "crimes" they never committed down through the years...

Not just that, but all the women who were blamed/beaten/cast aside for not producing male babies...and now we know that the sperm decides the sex, not the ova.

That still gets me.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Jess, "aliyah" means moving to Israel, not just visiting. (The opposite, for moving from Israel to somewhere else, is Yordaniah. Or something like that. Yordansomething. Aliyah means going up, and yordanwhatever means going down. Same root word as the Jordan River, since you've got to walk downhill to get to the river.)

I had my first CSA pickup today! I got scallions, garlic scapes, sorrel, pac choi, basil, chives, and salad greens. Now I've got to figure out what to do with all of this.
