Spike's Bitches 41: Thrown together to stand against the forces of darkness
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
smonster is extremely cute and can have whatever ~ma her little heart desires.
I am so fed up with this CTY teaching job right now. You know how they wanted me to get my 1-9 notarized, and the notary I went to told me that was not an authorized act...and then called the National Notary Organization, who confirmed this? Well the "Employment Specialist" just left me a message saying that according to Johns Hopkins general counsel, it is NOT an illegal act, so she doesn't know what the national notary organization is going on about. Um. Then she told me to "go some place like Kinkos--they can do it." I DID GO SOME PLACE LIKE KINKOS, DAMMIT.
Their alternative? Drive to the CTY branch office in Marina del Ray (over an hour from here) to have a representative sign it. There was no offer of compensation for gas money or anything. Considering I've worked out that I'm making maybe $13/hour for the amount of work I have to do (it's a flat per student salary), I'm really annoyed at all of this.
I could just cry. I don't have it in me to deal with this bullshit right now.
WTF, Kristin? I-9's DO NOT need notarization. Hell, they don't even NEED copies of your ID.
Ok, notary-wise, if there is no "certificate" on the form, then there is nothing to notarize. BUT any good notary has loose certificates that can be attached, you just need to ask CTY if they want an "acknowledgement" (verifying you are who you say you are and that you are signing of your own free will) or a "jurat" (this is the whole truth and nothing but the truth). The notary cannot advise you on which one you need - which may be where the Kinko's person was stuck.
It really shouldn't be that challenging of an issue. They may be getting touchy since it verges on immigration related issues. I wish I still had my books with me so I could look up better details for you.
Thanks, Suzi. There was a form attached for the notary to fill out, but she said that she couldn't do that, either. Aims, the notarization is needed (in theory) because they are on the East Coast and I am in California.
My supervisor just called and left a message that there is a CTY summer site in Pasadena at a high school, so I may be able to go there and have a representative verify my identity. Better, but still. ARGH.
Ok, that's just craziness, Kristin.
I just went by and saw Sophie. She is SO anxious right now. There were drops of her saliva all over the floor from all the panting she's been doing all morning. It was really hard to leave, but I was over there for over 30 minutes, and I had to get back to take care of the dogs and do some transcription and school work. Blech.
Did the attached form have a statement on it, or was it just a notorial certificate?
I'm thinking they are balking because of the I-9. If they just need to notarize the statement (an affidavit is what I'm thinking), then don't even show them the I-9. The notary only needs to see the affidavit, if that is what they sent you.
btw, today is day one in my new office. New boss man is not in today. The three boxes of files and other office stuff that was supposed to be sent over a week ago from my old office have not made it here yet. AND I really need to bring in my iPod - these guys use their speaker phones too much and doors not enough.

I think the problem is that the I-9 itself is supposed to be done in person, and they're trying to find a way around that.
This can't be an unusual situation though - there's got to be a better solution out there somewhere.
Not his fault - I just got sucked in. It was the part where
Oooh, yeah. You're in the good part. It takes 400 pages for the book to get REALLY good, but the last 200 are worth it.
Booked for San Francisco last night, so I'm excited about visiting next month.
Oh, neat! I did not know about this. Yay.
It's a booky kind of day - I just booked tickets for myself for Minneapolis for August 12-17. I'm going for work, but still! Trip!!
