Spike's Bitches 41: Thrown together to stand against the forces of darkness
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Oh for the love of...
You remember how I had to fill out pages and pages of an online application for the online Johns Hopkins job
after
I had already been offered it? Well I was wondering why I hadn't gotten any tax forms to fill out yet--I'm more than two weeks into the job and am was, in theory, supposed to get my first paycheck a couple days ago--so I emailed my supervisor. He apologized, had no idea I hadn't gotten that paperwork yet, and forwarded my info onto their payroll person.
I got this email in reply:
Hello [my real name],
Thank you for your interest in careers with Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth.
To process your information, I will need your signature on the attached release forms to give us permission to check background, employment and education. To expedite processing, please fax these to me at your earliest convenience.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call or email me.
[human resources lady's name]
Attached? Four MASSIVE pdfs that require NOT just signatures, but all kinds of information about my education and current work that I have ALREADY given them so that they can check to be sure I am qualified to teach the class I
have already been teaching for two weeks.
And guess what? No tax forms. Apparently they have to process all the rest of this bullshit before they can officially hire me and put me on payroll.
For fucksake. I really hate university bureaucracy.
I resisted capris and now I like them. Although I originally typed that as crapis...
It didn't look like Anna was eating and I got worried but then I mixed the cat food with water to make cat food soup and she's drinking that.
I'm supposed to be loking for apartments to go rent but it seems anything in my price range is.., not quite what I want but I will still look.
Right now some neighbors are practicing iwth their band. It sounds like scream core or what I would assume that sounds like. I'm giving them until 7:30 and then going over and asking if they can knock it off. If I make it that long, I really hate going over there because I've called the cops twice on a group of people over there and I think it's the same group. But seriously all I can hear is DRUMS DRUMS DRUMS the drumming in my head.. and occasionally a guitar and some screaming.
I'm sure the guy is screaming about death and desctruction and mayhem that's been done better before.
If they can't process their shit on time sounds like you don't need to do the student evaluations on time.
This job is way more trouble than its worth in many ways. You know me, though. I can't slack off on the actual work.
I haven't even made it out of the yoga pants and t-shirt I slept in, so you're all doing a lot better than me.
I haven't made it out of the nothing I slept in! Or indeed into the shower yet. Um. But I HAVE made and consumed tarragon creamed mushrooms with chicken, accompanied by a slice of honeydew melon and a cup of black vanilla chai.
Yum!
I haven't made it out of the nothing I slept in!
broken now
Toto just stole Molly's pill pocket with her hypothyroid meds. Our vet (both Molly and Toto's) is closed, and none of the emergency vets will help me. They just keep saying to call poison control, which is $60, and I don't have $60.
And I can't find helpful info online. I'm in tears and so frustrated. I don't know what to do.
Remind me, bug, Molly is a cat? Do you remember the specific meds, and what are her approx weight and Toto's?
IANAV, but an overdose of thyroid supplements in dogs usually takes days to weeks to become apparent when the dog is on the meds; that implies to me that a one-time dose isn't likely to be toxic -- it's something that builds up over time.
If he's showing any symptoms of illness, it won't hurt to induce vomiting, but I really doubt it's going to be more than a watch/wait/call the vet tomorrow to check in situation.
Molly is a huge dog, which is really more the reason I'm worried. I'm worried that it's MUCH too high of a dose for him.
The med is Soloxine 0.8 mg. I have no idea Molly's weight--at least 60 pounds...I'd guess more. And Toto's under 20.
I just talked to Molly's mom. Molly's "brother" has done the same thing as Toto did, and he's fine. So, I'm going to just wait and see. Blech. That was a few minutes of stress I didn't need.

This is good to know. Thank you.
