Why can't books that go in an order like this be published in some way that makes the order clear?
If I were in charge of the world, this would be a law. Every book in a series would have to have all the books in the series listed, latest to earliest.

Oh no!! Looking at engagement rings, and then breaking up? That IS bad!! Poor thing. I mean, I suppose better that he was supportive then, and broke up with her NOW, as opposed to breaking up with her right before finals or something, but...yeesh.
That's also part of how I know my life may be heating up--my friend J just had his girlfriend dump him. Which is horrible and awful...but apparently there's a law that only one of us can be getting any at any given time, so he was like "hey. K dumped me. Apparently you may be having sex soon" Which is part of why I adore him. Poor puppy.
(Also, why am I awake at this hour on a saturday? Because i woke up at 5:30AM and considered getting up but that was too early. WTF, brain??)
