{{{Teppy}}} I'm sorry about the health care stuff and that you're having a bad day. The lipsticks you bought are very pretty. In the hot weather all of my lipsticks seem to turn a shade of hot pink on my lips after a while, it's strange and annoying.

It's still dark in DC, although the thunder seems to have let up. I'm planning to hang around the office until the rain lets up a little ... unless it looks like it's going to go on interminably, at which point I'll strap on my sneakers and brave the puddles.

Did people hear about the chaos we imposed on ourselves last Friday? There was a power outage downtown and fires in a couple of Metro stations, traffic went into a free-for-all, public transit pretty much screeched to a halt. And DC handled things with the usual competence.

Yeah, when I was getting in my car on Friday morning, my neighbor said "are you going downtown? Cause there's no power". Rest assured if I had been, I would have turned right the hell around.

I got to my office and we're almost on top of the Metro Center station ... right in the middle of the no-power zone. The building had a generator going to power the emergency lighting and one elevator ... but we had not computers, no phones, no nothing (I had to borrow a flashlight when I had to go to the ladies' room!). And the A/C was off. Would have gotten nasty if the power hadn't come back on when it did.

However, we discovered that a previous person-in-charge of the computer system decided that a UPS wasn't necessary ... so we had to have tech support check over our server and make sure it wasn't damaged (too badly) by having the power cut off.

So it looks like I have way too much scrap metal to bring down myself. The car, and my back, would have rebelled. So I have taken SonusExMachina offer of truck and hefting on Wednesday. In the meantime, there is no room left to move about in my living room. Yikes!

I also started going thru what I thought was my school papers. Turns out it is papers from moms old house. One pile of which is medical records from my youth. Turns out when I was born in 71, maternity services were NOT covered by the health insurance!!!! WTF?!?! What kind of coverage is that?!?! Reinforces that conversation with ND & KT re: male-centered health care system. Crazy I say.

Our lights flickered a few times before the sky unzipped, but thankfully we haven't lost power. (And the wind seems to have died down, so it any power lines were going to fall, I'm pretty sure they'd be down already.)

I have absolutely no desire to make dinner. And yet, I still want to eat. Such a dilemna.

One of my friends here in Bangkok (who's just lovely, and a very active member of my am dram group) is off to visit family in San Francisco, and she's absolutely adorable. If she had any marriagable neices/whatever, and they happened to be of an appropriate variety of Indianness, might you be interested in, I don't know, Facebooking them, or something?

I'm not sure if this is sort of intrusive of me? But I figure - she's awesome, and hot. There could be other awesome and hot family members out there, maybe? But if this is weird, then forgeddaboutit, eh?
