You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

very interesting article, Toddson. I wondered if requiring women to align to a different set of uniform guidelines than men might be considered gender discrimination. It's why women can go topless in NY.

When I drove carriages in Chicago we did a few Indian weddings. They'd request a white horse (usually it was America, our big old white mare) and an open carriage. The groom would deck out the horse and carriage (and sometimes the driver) in garlands of (I think) marigolds (usually red and gold ones) and then stand up on the front seat to travel a block or so to the wedding site.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

Remember my lipstick questions of last week (or perhaps the week before)?

I went across the street to the mall (ye gods, every time I go, I hate it more, I don't care that there's an Apple store and a Sephora and a Lush) and bought lipstick to make me feel better about today, because there's just so much to hate about today -- the health insurance thing is just the start of it.

Oddly, I'm not looking for a blue-red; I'm looking for a brownish/bronzey red. I got Laura Geller Lip Stay in Pout (I wanted something that doesn't budge, and this shit seems to stay put until it's sandblasted off) and Make Up For Ever lipstick in (scroll way down) #421, described as Pearly Brownish Pink (transparent burgundy).

I'm not convinced I like the MUFE lipstick on me -- somehow it looks a little too raspberry, oddly, but the Laura Geller is pleasing the hell out of me.

So today has some good. ON MY LIPS.

I would like to submit that Teppy's lips are always good.

Punishingly Intricate

Whoa! The heavens just opened up on DC. It looks like it's 8:30PM out there.

Oi, here too. And I'm filled with dread that i'll come home to a completely caved in ceiling in my office/closet/library. I noticed yesterday that the water damage that was stabilized for a couple of years had gotten worse. my contractor friend is going to patch the roof but he won't be able to for a couple of weeks. please please please let it hold until then.

{{{Teppy}}} I'm sorry about the health care stuff and that you're having a bad day. The lipsticks you bought are very pretty. In the hot weather all of my lipsticks seem to turn a shade of hot pink on my lips after a while, it's strange and annoying.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

It's still dark in DC, although the thunder seems to have let up. I'm planning to hang around the office until the rain lets up a little ... unless it looks like it's going to go on interminably, at which point I'll strap on my sneakers and brave the puddles.

Did people hear about the chaos we imposed on ourselves last Friday? There was a power outage downtown and fires in a couple of Metro stations, traffic went into a free-for-all, public transit pretty much screeched to a halt. And DC handled things with the usual competence.

Yeah, when I was getting in my car on Friday morning, my neighbor said "are you going downtown? Cause there's no power". Rest assured if I had been, I would have turned right the hell around.
