The complicated piece is that I have to have a place with a bedroom and bath on the main floor for my mom - which apparently is available but not that common around there. So that limits my choices right off the bat.

In papers-purging news, I've got the Living room clear of papers. The 4 drawers of filing cabinets are been purged and contain the saved papers from themselves, as well as the saved papers from the living room. Just two more "need to clean the house, quick dump all these papers in this" boxes left to sort through. I suspect most of it will be in the shred pile. Two big bags of trash, and 2 paper bags for shredding so far. Apartment STILL looks like a mini tornado hit it. But I can see more floor, which means it is getting better. Next is the magazines and old gear. With those gone, the house hopefully will show a marked improvement.
