A thread for the discussion of games: board, LARP, MMORPG, video, tabletop RPG, game theory etc. etc. and all attendant news, developments and ancillary subjects thereof, as well as coordinating/scheduling games either online or IRL. All are welcome to chime in, talk about their favorite games or learn about gaming of any sort.
PLEASE TO WHITEFONT SPOILERS for video games, RPG modules or anything for which foreknowledge of events might lessen one's enjoyment of whatever gaming experience.
I have to say that despite my fears of being sucked into WoW, I wasn't. I played for 2 hours and was mostly bored because it was the same-old-same-old.
Maybe I didn't get ENOUGH crack, as I didn't join up with a clique, but I didn't see any real point to clicking on kill-fodder and scooping up the random things the fodder sloughs off when killed.
It was real pretty, though.
(This from the girl who easily puts in 11 straight hours on Rock Band, and once played Civ II for 54 straight hours with only limited sleep breaks).
I didn't enjoy WoW all that much, for precisely the reasons Raq stated above.
City of, however...
Stories that involve lost MONTHS to that game.
My sister, the WoW widow. Let me show you her.
I'm interested in being part of a gaming group... but I don't fit the mold (mac-primary, severe lack of experience, [ETA - sprog-based lack of time]). BT, if we could figure out the time difference, that would rock. My sister could come play too (if her DH would back away from the computer for a bit) - NZTelecom just gifted them broadband.
I've never been all that interested in MMOs. The idea of playing video games with a bunch of strangers just doesn't appeal to me. All too often, the total strangers turn out to be total dicks.
This is me, pretty much. In theory, I like the idea of playing games with actual people and not just the machine. In practice, not THOSE people, and usually not those games.
unrelatedly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SEAN!!
The South Park WoW episode pretty much killed the minimal curiousity I might have had about MMOs.
billytea, can I just say that I'm a wee bit jealous of your gaming group? If anyone tried to build that immersive of a world with my usual group, they would meet with even more smart-assedness and threats to burn down the city than usual.
Nah. I think we're still trying to find the right balance. Still working on bringing some of the NPCs to life, and I have to fight a tendency to railroad. Of course, they're only on the first mission, I'm working on expanding their options as they get more established. (It'll be more fun that way when I rip it all from them.)
So, anyone come across any good scary nightmares?
Thanks, gang! You're all awesome!
BT, I had some ideas for nightmares, but I'm running out the door to work. I'll post later.
Sean, I want to meet with you to create my character, for lo I am slow.
Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
