Not sure the odds diff, but an XO of the chief to fire twice on basestars.

Nukes get better odds. They never miss completely. On a roll of 1-2, they damage the basestar twice (firing on the basestar has a 1 in 4 chance of doing this (actually 7/24 to be precise, as the first shot could cause structural damage). On a roll of 3-6, a nuke destroys a basestar outright. On 7 or more, it not only destroys the basestar, but takes out up to three raiders in the same space. If an SP is played, the odds become 100% of destroying the basestar, and 50% of getting three raiders too (as long as there are still raiders in the same space).

The limiting factor, of course, is that you only have two nukes for the entire game, and only the Admiral may use them.

Pradmiral Tigh, you have received an XO. You may either move and take an action, or take two actions. When you're ready, please post your orders.

My first action is to nuke the basestar in Sector 3. As BT has said, if anyone has an SP to play on this roll, we have a 50% chance of destroying the 3 raiders with it.

Obviously I have to wait to perform my second action, but I have a question. The rules say RS Vipers are usually activated from Command, so a player can't just activate one as an action (with Command giving the superior action of activating two)?

No, that wording just allows for special circumstances like Apollo's CAG ability. You can pretty much assume that if you want to activate RSVs, you'll need to go to Command.

Any SP interrupts for the nuke?

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

BSG

No interrupts here.

Interrupt: I play a Strategic Planning on the Pradmiral's nuke attempt.

Mr Zarek plays an SP-4 on the nuke. Let's see how it goes:

Die roll: 8 + 2 = 10. The nuke destroys not only the basestar, but the three raiders accompanying it. Look, I don't think you people realise just how much one of these things costs. I'm seriously out of pocket here.

Pradmiral Tigh, when you're ready please post your second action.
