Orders for Round 8:
Ryan: Phase III - Settle
Laga: Phase III - Settle
omnis: Phase III - Settle
Connie Neil: Phase IV ($) - Consume (Trade)
chrismg: Phase III - Settle
Connie is the odd one out for another round. We have two phases, Settle and Consume. Starting with Phase III:
Ryan
plays Rebel Outpost. This is a 5-defence military world. Ryan can play it as non-military using Rebel Cantina, and Rebel Pact gives him -2 cost; it costs 3 discards. This card gives him +1 military. He then draws a card for choosing this phase. That will be a recurring theme.
Laga
plays Clandestine Uplift Lab. Unethical medical experiments! This is also a military world, 3 defence; she plays it using Contact Specialist at -1 cost, for 2 discards. This card lets her draw (but not keep) 1 extra card when exploring, and consume 1 good for 1 VP and 1 card. It also gives her extra cards when trading a Green good. This bonus is equal to the number of cards in her layout with a Chromosome symbol. That would currently give her +4 cards. She then draws 1 card for choosing this phase.
omnis
plays Deserted Alien World for 1 discard. This gives him +1 card draw when exploring. It also gives him +2 military against military Alien production and windfall worlds (current total of +4), and -2 cost for
non-
military Alien production and windfall worlds. He then draws 1 card for choosing this phase.
Connie
passes. Her turn will come.
chrismg
plays Malevolent Lifeforms. This is a 4-defence military world. He has 7 strength, so can play this easily. This is a Green production world, and gives him 1 extra card draw when exploring. He then (say it with me) draws 1 card for choosing this phase.
Phase IV is next. There are a couple of people with choices to make here, so we'll pause for them to do so.
Obviously this is Grand Admiral Thrawn's "no really, we can shoot right through your planetary shields" trick.
There's a development in the third expansion called the Imperium Planet Buster that's quite clearly a rebadged Death Star. It gives +3 military, and if you're playing with the takeover rules (where you can try to conquer military worlds from other people's layouts), you can use it to destroy a military world in someone else's layout.
RftG
Her turn will come.
Oh, yes. My turn will come. Then you'll pay--you'll all pay!!!
Um, sorry.
RftG
Oh, yes. My turn will come. Then you'll pay--you'll all pay!!!
This has been the opening excerpt from Connie's upcoming autobiography,
How Evil Was My Empire.
Now, Phase IV (Consume), otherwise known as Connie's Turn.
omnis
and
chrismg
pass, having no goods.
Ryan
uses the power on Merchant World to discard 2 cards from his hand for 2 VPs. He has one good too, but no Consume power to deal with it.
Connie
chose this phase, and she trades her Green good for 4 cards.
That concludes Round 8. Everyone, please send me your choice of Action card for Round 9.

Round 9. Could it be the last? Choices are:
Ryan: Phase III - Settle
Laga: Phase II - Develop
omnis: Phase III - Settle
Connie Neil: Phase II - Develop
chrismg: Phase II - Develop
Risk of game end: HIGH
Phase II (Develop) is first.
Laga
and
chrismg
both draw 1 card. I need to clear up some COs before we move onto the actual developing.
RftG
Right, let's continue with Phase II - The Developing.
Ryan
passes. Slacker.
Laga
plays New Economy for 5 discards. This 6-cost development gives her 1 card draw in Phase IV.At game end it's worth 2 VPs for each development with a Consume power in her layout, plus 1 VP for each such world. It's currently worth 6 VPs.
omnis
plays Export Duties for 1 discard. This gives him +1 card when trading.
Connie
plays Galactic Genome Project for 5 discards. This 6-cost development lets her consume 2 Green goods for 3 VPs. At game end it's worth 2 VPs per Green production or windfall world in her layout, plus 3 VPs if she has Genetics Lab. It's currently worth 6 VPs.
chrismg
plays Galactic Imperium for 5 discards. It gives him +4 military against Rebel worlds only. At game end it's worth 2 VPs per Rebel military world plus 1 VP per other military world. It's currently worth 5 VPs.
RftG
Now for Phase III. If Laga plays anything, the game will end this round.
Ryan
plays Rebel Miners. This is a military Brown production world, 2 defence. He can play it for free with Rebel Cantina and Rebel Pact. He then draws 1 card for choosing this phase.
omnis
plays Alien Robot Scout Ship. This is a 4-defence military Yellow windfall world. Deserted Alien World gives him +2 military for such worlds, which with the +2 military from New Sparta is enough to settle this. He then draws 1 card for choosing this phase.
Connie
passes, having tuckered herself out sciencing on the Genome Project.
chrismg
plays Rebel Homweorld. This is a 7-defence military world, the highest defence in the base game. His military strength is now 8, and 12 against Rebel worlds.
That concludes Roun-- oh wait, what about Laga?
Laga
...passes! The game continues.
That
concludes Round 9. A couple of fun facts to emerge from it.
Ryan now has 3 Rebel military worlds in his layout. He claims the "Propaganda Edge" goal, for leading in Rebel military worlds.
chrismg has 12 cards in his layout. However, because he has Hidden Fortress in his layout, this does not end the game. He will end the game if he reaches 14 cards in his layout.
Everyone, please send me your choice of Action card for Round 10.

While we wait on Round 10, an update on goals:
The "Production Leader" goal goes to the player with the most production worlds, once someone reaches at least 4. Laga has 3 production worlds and needs 1 more to claim it. Everyone else has 2 production worlds.
Ryan has the "Propaganda Edge" goal, which goes to the player with the most Rebel military worlds, once someone reaches 3. Ryan does indeed have 3. chrismg is close behind, with 2 such worlds.
There is one "First" goal unclaimed, Overlord Discoveries. This goes to the first player to have 3 Alien cards in their layout. At present, omnis has 2 such cards, and Connie has 1.
All other goals have already been claimed. (By Laga.)
