Before I agree with my (cylon) son to intentionally fail, I want to know the odds

Wow, Dad, defensive much? Something you don't want us to know? I always thought it was a little odd that WD-40 was your cologne of choice...

Re: the check, Baltar can help a little, I can help a little, you can help (perhaps) a little, Boomer cannot help, and Madam President continues to be almost completely out-of-touch, so who knows there. I wouldn't be surprised that we were only a third of our way to success with that kind of commitment.

But see, this is the trend that Boomer spotted, and I can't help but think that she is thinking better than she shoots -- Roslin continues to squat in Caprica One like a spider in a web, and is holding a stack o'cards that she seems disinclined to spend. Likewise, I've heard an endless litany from you about how you can't help with this check or that.

Now, I think to myself, "Self -- what if suddenly the Old Man or Roslin start falling all over themselves to help? Why would that be? What could motivate them to suddenly get all fired up about passing this check? What would that tell me about their motivations?"

The way I figure it, a -1 morale is a very small price to pay to prove your loyalty, Admiral, Madam President, so why would you want to keep that from happening?

In the meantime. You want me to do WHAT?

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

You'll find an Attack Table on the back of the rules, it covers all possible combos of attacker and target. And yes, teeny Vipers against big bad basestars get difficult odds. To hit a basestar with a Viper, you need to roll an 8 (or better; you can get +2 to the roll with a Strategic Planning interrupt.) On the plus side, it doesn't shoot back (at Vipers, anyway).

You have better odds against Raiders - you only need 3+ to hit one. Against heavy raiders you need 7+.

Yeah, it was a long shot, but since I knew you had the shoot four times card and there was no real risk (as Billytea points out), it was worth burning a 1 point card since I didn't have any other actions I could meaningfully take.

Yeah, and you got me -- we don't actually have oscillation overthrusters. That button I have you pressing actually just turns the light in the glove compartment on and off. You can stop doing that now.

Ya thanks! It also interrupted the flow to the aft thruster, and I have no R2 to fix the problem.

Hello..... CANCER!

I'm busy having visions, thank you. And I helped in the last check. I can help in this check, but I am intrigued by your "let's test the leadership" plan. If you would like to throw me in the brig, Mr. Adama, and tie one hand behind your back for any future YG challenges, you go right ahead.

In the mean time, I can help pass this check.

Edited to correct iPhone "help".

Lee's just jealous that Baltar's the only one who gets to see Loyalty Cards.

I have nothing to hide, and not much ability to help, as I've been nickled-and-dimed on checks requiring green. So I'm OK with throwing this one, or I will help as much as I can.

They do get instant cachet from her.

On a related note, I attended a demo/briefing this week of the head-worn controller. This thing came out about a year ago, and allows you to control games without moving (although everyone still moves) via multiple electrodes mounted on your head.

This demo was pointing out that by merging that with haptic technology you can get advanced force-feedback, like the player may really feel they are falling when their character jumps off a ledge.

The really terrifying part was the subsequent discussion about how those haptics could be used to trigger "desire" and "aversion" parts of the player's brain, so that, oh, advertisements they come across while playing REALLY REALLY make them want the stuff.

Hey, I will not deny I have a strong interest in seeing one or the other of your cards. To be fair, if the card allowed me to look at anyone's cards I would check Dr. Baltar's (no offense, Gaius), simply because he is the most likely to be a cylon at this stage (he has drawn two loyalty cards). Also, if we had taken any morale damage this turn already, I might simply opt for the 10 card hit, and be done with it. However, that isn't a choice I have.

As it is, however, I think the test will be an interesting moment for our leadership, and for a very small price, that, if Madam President is not a toaster, she can fix easily with a quorum card. On the other hand, I will sleep better knowing that dear old Dad isn't a Cylon, because he controls our jump destination. Our only hope is to be able to jump as often as possible, for as long a distance as possible. The Admiral draws two jump cards, chooses one and buries the other. Bad jump cards cost morale or fuel, and don't move us toward New Caprica very far. Good ones replace fuel, or get us a lot longer along our way.

And I hate to point this out because I recommended it as well (although I am now reconsidering) -- the Admiral was pretty quick to sacrifice one of our nukes during his turn. We only have one left, now, and that could make things tight if we get attacked by multiple basestars.

And Madam President, there need be no brig involved. If you aren't a cylon, you may continue hitting the kamala and talking to things that aren't there all you want. Same goes for the Old Man. But if you are, I think we all need to know upon which side your toast is buttered.
