Is anyone else planning on picking up the game (Chronicles of Mystara)? My friends and I made many many treks to the one arcade an hour away that had the full 4-player setup of the second game back in the day.

Hmm I dunno. I hope it's more fun to play than it is to watch.

This Friday, I sit my exam in Quantitative Analysis of Finance II. My life has been consumed by esoteric factoids relating to such matters as principal component analysis, Markov chain Monte Carlo integration and of course multivariate generalised autoregressive conditional heteroskedastic models. If you understood any of that, my deepest sympathies.
However! Come Friday, their baleful hold on my life will be broken! Except for the part where I use this stuff at work pretty much every day. But at least there, no one else understands it well enough to give me pop quizzes. There, I give the pop quizzes! Which everyone else ignores, and occasionally my supervisor asks if I'm making these on company time. But that's not the point. The point is that soon my thoughts shall turn once more to the imminent destruction of all humanity, and the flight of Buffistica 18 - Space Camel will begin!
First question, of course, is: who's up for it? Sign up in-thread or send me an email. Veterans and newbies both welcome.
Second question: which game options shall we use this time around? Last game, we tried out the Ionian Nebula for the first time. That means we've tried all the available game options, at least until the Daybreak expansion comes out later this year. Let me know, either in-thread or by email, which options you'd like to use this time around.
1. Ionian Nebula/Cylon Fleet/Neither.
2. Conflicted Loyalties - Y/N?
3. Cylon Leader - not available if 5 players, optional if 6 players, mandatory if 7 players.
4. New Caprica - Y/N? (Not compatible with Ionian Nebula)
Once we have the crew sorted out, and everyone is good to go, we'll get the party started.

I think I can play, if checking in once or twice a day will be enough. I'd like to try out the Ionian Nebula, and I love Conflicted Loyalties, not sure about the rest.

I'm game for the setup we had last game.

That's enough. If you can manage twice a day, that would be great.
Not me, sorry.

Count me in. It's summer time. When my schedule is the slowest. If we have too many, I'll sit out, so newbies can play. See, I can share.
1. Ionian Nebula/Cylon Fleet/Neither.either. I'm game for any of the scenerios.
2. Conflicted Loyalties - Y/N?I'm game for that too.
3. Cylon Leader - not available if 5 players, optional if 6 players, mandatory if 7 players.Game for this one too.
4. New Caprica - Y/N? (Not compatible with Ionian Nebula)Hmm. I think I'd prefer Nebula.

I'm in. I like all flavors. I vote Ionian Nebula for sure.
Hmm I dunno. I hope it's more fun to play than it is to watch.
I personally would say so, but I would say that's true for most games, IMO. (GTA being one of the rare games I enjoy watching, but have no desire to play.)
Honestly, if you enjoy playing side-scrolling beat-em-ups, like Final Fight or the TMNT arcade game, the games are a lot of fun (though the second game, Shadows over Mystara is far superior to the first in terms of gameplay and controls.) If not, then the D&D flavoring likely won't be enough to keep your interest.
SoM is probably my favorite arcade game of all time. It's a great beat-em-up with a pretty deep combat system (you can combo jumping attacks, regular attacks, slide attacks and aerial attacks on different ways, plus characters with shields can block and perform a counter attack) combined with spells, equipment and magic items from D&D as well as the option of several paths through the game, as well as some hidden treasure rooms and the like.
My only real complaint with it is the "spell freeze" (whenever a spell is cast, the rest of the game freezes while the animation plays out) and because of that boss fights generally involve everyone else twiddling their thumbs while the casters spam their magic button.
You can always download the demo and give it a whirl.
