A thread for the discussion of games: board, LARP, MMORPG, video, tabletop RPG, game theory etc. etc. and all attendant news, developments and ancillary subjects thereof, as well as coordinating/scheduling games either online or IRL. All are welcome to chime in, talk about their favorite games or learn about gaming of any sort.
PLEASE TO WHITEFONT SPOILERS for video games, RPG modules or anything for which foreknowledge of events might lessen one's enjoyment of whatever gaming experience.
Hmm I dunno. I hope it's more fun to play than it is to watch.
I personally would say so, but I would say that's true for most games, IMO. (GTA being one of the rare games I enjoy watching, but have no desire to play.)
Honestly, if you enjoy playing side-scrolling beat-em-ups, like Final Fight or the TMNT arcade game, the games are a lot of fun (though the second game, Shadows over Mystara is far superior to the first in terms of gameplay and controls.) If not, then the D&D flavoring likely won't be enough to keep your interest.
SoM is probably my favorite arcade game of all time. It's a great beat-em-up with a pretty deep combat system (you can combo jumping attacks, regular attacks, slide attacks and aerial attacks on different ways, plus characters with shields can block and perform a counter attack) combined with spells, equipment and magic items from D&D as well as the option of several paths through the game, as well as some hidden treasure rooms and the like.
My only real complaint with it is the "spell freeze" (whenever a spell is cast, the rest of the game freezes while the animation plays out) and because of that boss fights generally involve everyone else twiddling their thumbs while the casters spam their magic button.
You can always download the demo and give it a whirl.
I might do that. Watching them play vaguely reminded me of playing Altered Beast which I poured quarters into back in the 90s. But when it comes to watching I would much rather see that crowd play tabletop than any video game.

Quick update on the state of play, so to speak. We have four players already signed up. I'm still waiting for a couple of the usual suspects to give me a yea or nay. If that sounds like you, you can sign up (or decline) either here in-thread or by email.
do eeeet! You know you want to.
(or, if you haven't played before...)
do eeeet. You know you want to try!!!
We promise we won't bite.
I'm tempted to join this round, but I don't think I will. By the middle of August I will be up to my neck in work and I doubt the game will be complete by then.

We have a few people who are especially busy over the summer. At this stage it looks like we may only have four people for this game. Four is playable, though it means that whoever gets the Cylon card will be on their own (we'll use the No Sympathiser variant).
If there is anyone else who'd like to sign on, whether you've played before or not you'd be very welcome.
I'll take you all on! You'll never see it coming!
No, no one would ever suspect you of being a Cylon. Never.
