By Orange Box, you mean Half Life 2, right?
I encourage you to try Team Fortress 2. But spend some time watching the director's commentaries first as they will go a long way towards explaining the game and with 9 player classes, you'll need it.
That makes the game sound complicated, it's not. It just has a lot of variety.
Ya, HL2.
So whats the diff between HL2, and the ch 1 and ch 2 things in there? I'm assuming it's best to do them in order.
Is there enough folks to have a friendly fraggin' in TF2? Nothing worse than a room of 12 year olds kicking my ass and rubbing my nose in it. Not like you don't do that, but somehow it's different.
I'm surprised you even have to ask that question about HL2. The game has a very strong narrative and doing the main game, then eps 1 & 2 in order is VITAL to the experience.
TF2; I know a few people with the Orange Box, but not enough. I'd loved to gather a group for a game but even if I had the time - which I don't until August - I doubt I could get the few I know to be online at the same time.
However, TF2 is a team-based game. Only teams. And to win the game there has to be cooperation and good teamwork between the players and their choice of classes. Because of this the game tends to attract a slightly older and/or socially less retarded group of players. Usually the entry lobby is a much friendlier place than Halo or Gears.
Still, watch the docs, and run around the maps in a game you've locked to yourself. No one likes a player who doesn't know where he's going or what he's supposed to do.
Also... Face my brute! Yeah, my two main brutes are hovering at 8th level now. I've watched the Peeeeev brute do a combo flying hammer attack that did 160 points of damage to the opponent. Yup, a one hit kill.

Stop picking on Laga!

I figured as much, but not touching the other two yet, wasn't sure.

Ha! good to know. So I might have a chance, if I pick a good task thingy to do. I'll finish the HL2 section before venturing into the TF.
Stop picking on Laga!
That's Lagaaaaaaaaaa! But I haven't logged in in ages. The last two times I tried I got an error message.

Ya, that happens a lot. I find F5 is a wonderful button when that silly screen appears. Usually clears in two clicks.

Yup, that's why he could do the kill in one punch.
Nonsense, I haven't touched Laga's Brute.
However, I'm going to have all 5 of mine hunt you down today, Omnis. Consider it payment for your tawdry attempt to sully my reputation.
It'll be just like Halo. I think my highest brute is level 5 with 80ish hitpoints. I have a level 4 with 110 hitpoints. And one of them just plain sucks. Like 5 wins in 20ish battles.
Wow, that kind of takes the sport out of it...
I have a theory that you're more likely to inherit traits that your master had. I've seen some clustering of abilities from Peeeeeeev's pupils but I'm not sure if there's really a pattern.

Master brute shares only one trait with student brutes. Master Brute has 2 of them. Other three brutes have 1, 2, and 3 (crazy how that worked out). Not saying the theory is busted, just adding additional data.
Primary has 89 hp level 6. Secondary have 69hp-L5, 111hp-L5, and 80hp-L4.
